    Achilles Desert Hawk X-MTs UPDATED

Hi all, anyone know anything about these tyres?

    Wheeldemon - Tyres - Achilles - Desert Hawk X-MT

It suggests they come in sizes suitable for D3/4/RRS 18 inch rims.

Read somewhere that they're made in Indonesia and are from the same mould as the Procomp extreme MT.

    Any thoughts?

    Matt

    Just the names scares me!

Mind you I'm always interested in a 18" MT.

Name is a bit of a turnoff.....but for weekend use only I would be up for a set next time around.
Manufacturers website shows 265/60-18 is under development.....and no listing for the 285/60-18 mentioned in the link you gave us.
I have saved this site.....but will be probably 12 months away before I wear out my current offroad rubber.

Am in the same boat in that it'll be a while before I need to replace my 285/60-18 Zeon weekenders.

If some of the bigger brands don't come on board with a decent 18 inch MT by then I'm thinking I'll give these a go, if they actually exist.

    265/60R18 Mud Tyres

Some of the Australian Achilles dealers (eg Tyres, Wheels, Rims, Brakes & Suspension: JAXQuickfit Tyres) are now advertising the Desert Hawk X-MT (extreme MT) as being available in 265/60R18. This would make it the only mud tyre in this size, which is a preferred size for the D3/D4/RRS.

Load rating is higher than the LR requirements, although a little low for a muddie (114Q). One of the Prado-owners groups are saying it's a very soft compound, so quick-wearing, but then so are most decent MT's. Some warranty concerns too, but is probably suitable for a weekend play tyre.

I've updated our tyre spreadsheet on the GOE site accordingly.

    Cheers,

    Gordon

Thanks Gordon, I was considering the Maxis Bighorn in 275/60 R18 but had read some less than favorable reports on them. What was your experience with them?

AFAIK, they're not made in that size? 275/65R18 is the smallest available. Tramline a lot, poor on wet roads and noisy. Fair bit of plastic cutting/re-positioning required, and doesn't fit in the spare wheel well. Great mud performance though.
