    Thanks for your help

Not sure if I want to risk airbag activation at this stage, I have seen the youtube wheel removal .. I will revisit the vid and see if I feel brave enough or pass to the experts.
    TY much appreciated

I had to replace two sets of switches on my D3 which I had for 5 years.

    brake light switch

If you have never replaced your brake light switch, ($25.00), do it first.

A new switch has fixed more cruise control problems than a clock spring ever had, is a lot easier and way cheaper.

The brake light switch has two sets of contacts; the brake light contacts can be good while the other set of contacts that sort of is hooked to the computer circuits can be fouled by arcing residue off the brake light contacts.

I meant cruise control switches on my previous post. And yes try the brake light switch first as it is quite a bit cheaper than the CC switches.

    Brake Light switch?

This would be the brake light switch associated with the Brake pedal, I assume.

I will do this and thanks very much for the clues one and all.

    Much appreciated.

I will see how we travel and post any results when I get time to do it over the next few weeks.

I just replaced the Brake light switch following your excellent instructions BByer. Very easy job, less than 15 mins I reckon. Hopefully it fixes my erratic cruise control. I'll have a look inside the old switch now which is an original one and see what those contacts look like. Thanks

Any update on the repair of your cruise control. I have the same issue and it is still present even after the replacement of the brake switch. It is looking like it is the clock spring!
