Now that certainly was an interesting stop with a locked rear.....

    ......
Years ago I was driving up the Newell, and about 50km south of Forbes, I was passed by a Toyota Crown (shows how long ago!) travelling about 30ks over the speed limit. Just as he was disappearing into the mirage he suddenly left the road in a cloud of dust. When I pulled up the driver was just climbing up onto the road. The car had rolled twice. Apparently one rear wheel had suddenly seized, presumably due to a locked wheel bearing. The driver claimed he managed to hold it on the road until the tyre blew.

Going back even further, one of my father's friends had a tooth come off in the gearbox of his Ford T while travelling about 20mph. It jammed the gearbox and the car stopped almost dead. During repairs it was found there was about a 30 degree twist in the crankshaft.

Oil report came through with comments. It indicates critical level of aluminium referring to piston/bearing wear. If I only checked that before the purchase

Can I use this report against the LR shop who did oil maintenance? Report is attached.

I think your best chance would be to contact LRA (Landrover Australia) and try under the implied warranty conditions that now exist in Australia.

... How many km did the engine have again?

I doubt it - how would they be liable if the correct oil was used?

Was bought privately so no warranty.

The trouble is that this may have occurred immediately before the failure so oil analysis before purchase may not have told you anything especially if it just had an oil change.

Wrote it down before my brain thought about it...that's the consequence of the fault. The engine got dismounted today, it is jammed solid.

The LR service who is doing the replacement are saying they need to take the crank out to release the gearbox. I have no idea what they meant by that, would appreciate if you could shed some light on it.

I will be completely devastated if the gearbox or anything else is also impacted by the engine seize.

    Engine pictures to come soon...

    Engine crank snap in half

Just can't believe that happened first day I bought D3. It is a disaster from what it looks and definitely doesn't contribute to the reputation of this model.

Did the mechanics say what they thought would of caused that to snap?
