I am not driving for economy and are quite pleased with the overall economy as with a 3.0l Patrol previously and an average of 13/100 the D4 with the exceptional comfort, power and sheer driveability comes out on top every time. The permagrin has not faded simply enhanced!!!
    That's pretty good.

My average is sitting at 13.7/100 (using a logbook app....trip computer shows average at 11.4) since new....47000. I do a bit of towing though.

A recent 1300km round trip to Kalbarri saw 12.8 (trip computer showed 10.5).....that's without a trailer, but mostly highway.

I have never been pleased with my D4 economy, compared to my Touareg (same trip saw 8.9/100) but really do like driving the D4, and of course it's slightly heavier and aerodynamic as a brick.

If we want economy we take the Golf 2.0 TDI but the wife opposed the D4 initially (all that money for a car) and now loves it to bits.
I run an excell spreadsheet on both cars, which we bought new, and acts as trend monitoring for both vehicles. (6 spd)

It's amazing the difference a longer run makes.

Filled it up today in St Ives about 11:30 (to give you an idea of traffic), drove down to Randwick via Epping Rd (Chatswood and Saturday mid-day = worse jam than peak hour), and got 9.3l/100km.

The previous tank average was 15.3l/100km, but didn't do any long trips, with all trips in peak hour. Huge difference.

80% hwy getting 620k out of a tank.

    Car has done 13,575klms.

When I am filling the tank most I have put in is 68litres, normally 64-64 litres.

Tracking via Fuel manager has me at 13.0L per 100 car says 11-11.5l per 100

    Getting 7.7Klm’s per litre.

Should I be looking into this? Cannot trust the dash readout. When on freeway I can get the consumption down to 8.0l per 100 which is more like 9.5 in real terms. City seems to be 11-12 on the dash readout so about 13.5.

    Thanks
I've just updated my fuel usage and can tell you the following:

    Now done 30k.

Total average fuel usage 11 l/100km compared to about 11.5 for the D3.

Highway 10 to 11.5 loaded with roof rack.

    Around town 11 to 13.

    Towing 15 l/100km.

    Off-road usually 12 to 15. Worst so far 17 l/100km.

    Biggest fill 66l.
Longest distance travelled between fills 674km.
    Best figure 9.6 l/100km.

    Cheers,
    Jon
