Where did you get a new one that quickly and cost ?
Reason for the question ? my MY07 now has 130K on it and is original, but the sound of you lot on here I'm living in danger ?

I just installed the new improved compressor tonight and she's back on the road... that top bolt was a lot easier but still not the most fun you can have.
Time to break out the Faultmate and look at the new software next...
The old units worth anything on fleabay I wonder?

I got mine from TRS who always do their best to help out I have to say.
They fit them and re-flash your ECU for $970 but being on bump stops it's not seriously or safely drivable IMO so I had it ripped out already and paid $900. They'll re-flash next time I'm in but will prolly just do it with the Faultmate anyway. The file is already downloaded and waiting...
Cheers.
Sorry guys. Have been crook for a couple of days and didnt log on.
I'm in Melbourne. Inner East. Been going to Doncaster for years but while the service is great, the prices arent so. Ive been repairing my series 2 for the last couple of years so not worried about the mechanics side of it.
Doncaster Landrover reckons the compressor is gone and after reading these posts and previous I tend to agree. The compressor has been faulting for a couple of months, then clearing so off we go again. Doncaster says $2200 to replace with a new one. I feel that's a bit high. Had they said about $1000 less i would have jumped. I'll ring Ritters tomorrow and I'll ask about cost to replace as well as cost to buy. I'll report back after that. It seems like i can get one from the UK for around $800, so with new software and a couple of hours on my back, that sounds like the best option. They cant be that hard to take out and put in. Anyone know where i can download the manual?
Appreciate everyone's interest and comments. Every little bit helps

it is a simple unbolt and refit exercise, the new compressor is easier to fit, (the upper bolt on the old one is a doozy) and the new kit comes with a new plastic housing, and different pipework and fittings etc.
it will run fine without the software patch, so you don't need to rush off to the dealer etc immediately.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Any ideas on a good price i should be looking at?
WHat hard about the upper bolt? Cant get to it? Or wont undo?
upper bolt on old design compressor bracket, can only really undo it a little bit at a time, best tool to use is one of these Stanley Ratchet Spanners | eBay . 10mm bolt head size.
the new compressor can be had cheaper from overseas obviously, but no warranty here.

I was seeing prices around $1k online so was 'happy' to pay $900.
The bolt is a dog to remove... I've done it twice now and it is a swine coz you need the compressor lose and then use a socket extension just the right length. I used two of the normal type length and it is a pig.
With the new improved compressor the bolt is easier to deal with but still not amazingly simple.
You need to cut two of the air lines to refit the new improved compressor but overall it is a peace of cake to change over.
Hope this helps.
Great work guys. I'll finish off the research tomorrow and then make the final decisions. You've all been very helpful as per usual
Hey you're welcome mate... I should mention too that the first time I rebuilt the original compressor, it cleared every regular fault I'd been having. In fact until the recent failure and subsequent replacement with new model, the D3 had refused to produce the regular bing bong and I'd changed brake switch, brake lights and all the usual stuff.
This fact alone mad repairs worthwhile as bing and bong were regular sound effects with our D3 and we were well used to trying to answer the door nearly every drive.
Cheers.
