I am just going through the same process as the OP of trying to figure out what rims and tyres to get as a second set for 4wding. I have a 3.0L HSE. Sounds like the compomotive rims are really the only option for rims but I am struggling to find a proper mud tyres for 18 inch rims that is compatible with the D4 (without too many mods).

My research suggests that the only real option for mud tyres on 18 inch rims is in the 275/65 R18 size which has a diameter of 814mm. To fit these tyres, some minor mods under the guards (including relocating the rear A/C pipes) and an alternative location for the spare wheel need to be found. The other issue is if your vehicle drops to the bump stops, the tyres will foul the guards making it impossible to drive.

I think the perfect size would be 265/65 R18 (31.5 inch or 801mm) for a mud tyre. The only tyres I can find in this size is the BF Goddridge all terrains.

If anyone has any other solutions for a mud terrain tyre on 18 inch rims for a 3.0L D4 I would love to hear it.

I still find it so annoying that Land Rover make a 4WD which has such a limited number of 4WD tyre options!
    Mine is a V8 D4. I currently have 245 70 17, next time I will go 265 70 17.

    Yep, mine's a sports car.

Then sometimes its a tow car, sometimes its a service vehicle, sometimes its a van, sometimes its a people mover and sometimes its a 4wd. That's what makes it so brilliant.

    Cheers,
    Jon

My 18 year old son reckons I drive mine like a sports car, doing donuts in the dirt at Bartons Mill and other stupid things like that. His mates reckon I'm cool!! He has a TDI300 D1 and we are always going out four wheeling together, either in my D4 or GQ Patrol with 6.5 Chev diesel. He always takes a group of his mates who own lesser cars like Surfs and Mirages!

Jon well knows about sports cars, having seen his toy in the flesh, I mean metal...

The SDV6 goes a lot better than most cars out on the road; I know it's not a brutal as some pure sports car, but it's much easier to drive and more comfortable than the Italian performance cars.
