You can't spin an outer out of steel that has enough clearance and maintains both the load rating and a legal offset. One or the other or both have to be compromised.

Does a 2.7l D4 weigh the same as a 3.0l D4? If so why does the 3.0l need bigger brakes?
    Also, how can a LC200 with a kerb weight of 2730kg 195kw 650nm have 17" rims?

Generally more performance needs to be backed up by better braking power.

200....brake hard and see how it goes....not great at all.

But most D4 owners realise she is not a sports car...so a shame it did not have smaller brakes.

The 3.0 doesn't need bigger brakes any more than a 2.7 does and would stop the same as a 2.7 if fitted.

Having said that, one of the very very few things I think could be a but better about my D3 is the brakes. There have been a couple of moments when standing in the brakes when I have fleetingly thought I wish I had just a little more, fortunately haven't hit anything yet, and the electronics are pretty damn good in those situations but still. Having said that it would be tough to trade off the need for 19" rims.

The bigger brakes give better traction control performance, especially in Rock Crawl. They are also less likely to fade if the TC is being continuously used over harsh ground.

I assume you must have a 2.7 D4 and hence have 17 inch rims which allow fitment of KM2s.

I am just going through the same process as the OP of trying to figure out what rims and tyres to get as a second set for 4wding. I have a 3.0L HSE. Sounds like the compomotive rims are really the only option for rims but I am struggling to find a proper mud tyres for 18 inch rims that is compatible with the D4 (without too many mods).

My research suggests that the only real option for mud tyres on 18 inch rims is in the 275/65 R18 size which has a diameter of 814mm. To fit these tyres, some minor mods under the guards (including relocating the rear A/C pipes) and an alternative location for the spare wheel need to be found. The other issue is if your vehicle drops to the bump stops, the tyres will foul the guards making it impossible to drive.

I think the perfect size would be 265/65 R18 (31.5 inch or 801mm) for a mud tyre. The only tyres I can find in this size is the BF Goddridge all terrains.

If anyone has any other solutions for a mud terrain tyre on 18 inch rims for a 3.0L D4 I would love to hear it.

I still find it so annoying that Land Rover make a 4WD which has such a limited number of 4WD tyre options!

In 4 years of looking, I've only ever found 275/65R18
