Thread: Mud Tyres for D4 3.0l

It's all about the legalities of insurance. No steel 18" rims are available that I'm aware of to make the required offset which is +53. You would have to grind the calipers to make something work. Shoulda got the 2.7 lol like I did. This in my opinion lets down the 3.0l. I'd love that engine but. Goodluck

I think it's a great point, I've got nothing against Gordon's alloys but a cheaper steel wheel alternative for fitting a second set of 'Bush Tyres' would make sense. Perhaps you should get in contact with King steel rims and ask the question.

Try dymamic wheels

Cheapest & easiest solution would be to get a set of mud tyres to suit your 18" rims, get really friendly with your local tyre dealer and get him to swap them over prior to going off road.
Second option would be to get a second hand set of 19", but you are loosing side wall depth and narrowing your range of tyres.

Had a look at the KM2, look pretty good are you running them as your primary tyre or what I want to do on a 2 nd set rims?. Holy crap $660 per tyre! Not cheap.

I've made up steel rims here in Perth, but the problem (other than they're heavy) is that the steelies are illegal. Even as "bush" rims, you still have to drive on a public road to get there, so I couldn't in good conscience sell them as a set of driving rims. If you're involved in an accident, you have NO insurance. I have sold them singly as emergency spares for people doing desert treks etc.

What size? They don't make one that will legally fit. Or practically fit without significant modification do they?
