Hey Tombie - have you looked into any of these Chinese "replacement " satnav touch screen units? http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/717381...1270608740.jpg - are they any good? I am guessing you get what you pay for
Haven't seen that one before...
Freelander unit.. That explains the shape...
Looks good but won't integrate.
My criteria was that the car must maintain it functionality and only add to it.
The Chinese unit for the D4 puts a second version of Bluetooth, which causes some loss of functionality in the factory Bluetooth.
Hence this work....
"Apparently" everything still works except the 6 disc changer - this unit runs through the aux input channel I think - supposedly steering wheel controls still function and control this unit also ? I haven't pushed the button on the purchase yet as the double din Chinese touchscreen av unit I got fort BMW has rubbish radio reception - but then I only paid $350 clams
Hi Tombie,
I'm in the situation where my MY13 D4 (arrived in Oz in November) has a Harman & Kardon audio system. Not sure which one it is though (I bought the car as a Run-Out model). Dealer wasn't particularly helpful in that regard. Spec sheet off the net states 'High Ice' as being the lower-end H&K but not sure if I can put full faith in that. I certainly doesn't have 17 speakers though, so I'm assuming that puts the 'Premium Ice' out of the equation.
Anyway, it has the larger touch screen. It has a reversing camera. And it has the 4WD screen. But no SATNAV.
I'm missing the SATNAV from my old D4 already, so want to fix that.
I really don't want another bit of kit hanging off my dash/windscreen unless I really have to. However, I don't want to lose any of the LR functionality either.
Will the system you are working on suit my purposes?
Thanks mate,
Kev.
Sounds interesting whatever it might be
I have one of the cheap Chinese windows gps units with reverse camera av input which works extremely well but..a nicer unit which can integrate correctly with the car sounds awesome...
Would love a larger screen but I have not found a unit yet with rear inputs which works better in the cubby hole space.
I had a cheap Chinese one in my Nissan and it worked great. Even bought all the Hema offroad Maps and had that working. The thing is, it only had to replace a fairly ordinary factory radio. I even modified the boot file so I could select offroad nav or street nav. I'd really like it to integrate with existing functionality otherwise I'd spend the money and buy a pioneer or kenwood. Which would work but would make all that other stuff in the middle of the dash redundant.
For those with the screen already.
A GVIF interface, and gps unit into that will give on screen nav.
Only catch is you may have to use a remote to enter addresses
