They showed me that the rear air bags were getting caught up and not coming down to how they are supposed to sit.

I had a set of rear airbags and shocks replaced at 50k under warranty. My car is mostly used to tow.

More likely caused by the shocks failing but you are better getting two new struts.

Were they referring to the dust covers? The dust covers may have been pushed up and therefore just need to be pulled down by hand as they can slide on the shock. The airsprings are always forced down by virtue of them being pressurised and can't be seen anyway without first removing the dust covers.

That's what I thought too ,Graeme. One of mine was like that when I got the car at 50,000km and it was still the same when I replaced the assemblies at 140,000 to get new shocks. No need for new air springs for that reason.

All I know is the black part of the bag was caught up the top. I thought the same thing about just pulling it back down.
I will take it too modern motors and see what they say.
If it is just as easy as pulling them back down is it still worth changing air bags with 70 thousand on the clock?
I probably will do the struts as well thanks to everyone's help.

Sounds like a plan here's hoping it's an easy fix.

Shocks having done 70K may or may not be worn out depending on usage, or worn out enough to warrant replacement considering the usage they're getting. My shocks front and rear don't last 70K but others get a lot more before noticing their lack of damping.

Edit: My D4's rear airsprings had significant internal cracks at the folds by 100K and I was glad that I had purchased complete spring and damper assemblies.
