Thread: D4 spotlights

The Bi-Xenon lights are very good. Brilliant, white light shows the way very well.


I have a pair of spots on mine that I use to get a little bit further light distance but there is not really that much extra to be gained. I leave them off unless the highway is open and straight.


I also find too much light gives terrible glare from road signs and destroys your night vision.

Depends on where you're planning to drive it. I travel regularly between Perth & Kalgoorlie and have a decent set of HID lights on the front of mine.

Wouldn't be without them.

I installed Fyrlyt driving/spots on my MY13 HSE D4. Whilst I agree that the Bi-Xenon lights are very good I find that the extra light and penetration of the Fyrlyts is worth it. I leave them on around the city when I can, obviously only use them where appropriate. IMHO, having them on does provide a much better vision than not having them on. If you're used to having them you'll possibly regret not having them. I would remove them from your trade so you can re-install if you change your mind.

At 110km/h at night on the highway you are easily "out driving" the range of light from your headlights.

If you drive in these conditions often then a set of driving lights are invaluable.

I run a set of Fyrlyts and a LED bar is also fitted for those times.
(I do a lot of night driving out remote)

I fitted a pair of HID-converted old Narva Offroader lights but removed them once I fitted a HID kit to the high beam fill-in lights and aligned them to light the road rather than the possums. However re-aligning the fill-ins was a fiddly task.

Driving mostly around town in the first couple of years of my D3s life I was amazed by the quality of the bi xenon lights and thought I wouldn't need Spotties when I kitted out my truck. My first outback trip with a pre dawn start and a million Roos and emus quickly convinced me that good as they are they are not enough for that kind of driving so I added the Spotties.

I would say that if you mainly do city and the ocassional highway drive then you probably don't need them. If you do regular night highway driving or any outback driving then put them on.

I was looking at mounting some led spotties to the main bumper due to the fact of not having a bull bar, I think Land rover have some spotties in their accessories but not led lights, was wondering if anyone had done or seen any mounted just for some extra light on the road. The bi xenons are good but I'll agree you do out drive them at 110kmh on the highway.

You'll out drive LED "spot" lights at 110km/h as well...
