Almost ready to make a move into a D4..... Again

    Hi all,

Back in mid 2012 I placed an order for an MY13 HSE (8speed etc). Come late January 2013, with still no update on delivery time I cancelled the order and went out and bought a Hilux out of frustration. Well I have been kicking myself ever since. All going well the Hilux will go to its new owner on the weekend and I will be ready to step into a D4.

MY main reason for changing is I want a wagon and I want something more comfortable on long trips.

I have been watching CarSales for the last 12 months and from memory 2 second hand HSE's have come on the market with the ediff option. For those who might watch the market a little closer than I, do they come up often?

I am trying to decide whether to purchase new or used. I think it might come down to no other option than to order a new one which is ok as I have never had a brand new car but second hand would see me a little less reluctant to take it off road in the near future.

I'm looking for a HSE, thinking white to hide the bush pin striping a little more (does it?). Ebony premium interior as I found it much more comfortable and of course the ediff option. The rest is not a must but upgraded stereo, keyless entry and privacy glass would be nice. Anyone looking to sell in the next couple of weeks/month?

I have seen the grey one listed but think it's 10k over priced. It's not exactly what I am looking for but could be a good car for the right price.

    Cheers
    Ben

    Ben,

I have a D4 with the eDiff but I didn't find the D3 I had (without) any less capable. I suppose I'm saying the advantage may be smaller than what people like to think and you shouldn't get caught up on the need for eDiff.

Get one for sure if you can, but its not a show stopper.

I think you will be very happy with a D4 after driving a hilux haha they are an awesome machine and the 8 speed auto is just beautiful to drive with the power and torque really makes it a dream. I've got a white MY13 HSE with and ediff and electric steering column also ebony interior, I could be interested in selling maybe and getting a sport haha.

Hi Ben, yes the white does hide the pin striping quite well, having owned 2x white D4"s now, I never had been lucky enough when I buy to jag a E Diff, saying that, like many others have said on AULRO, I don't think I have ever missed it either, I tend to buy new, as I like the extra security and peace of mind that gives, plus you can never get enough of that new car smell,

I live in Perth and managed to find a 50,000km D4 3l SE with ediff, ECB bull bar, Kaymar rear bar, long range tank, Mitch Hitch and rubber floor mats, which ticked all of my boxes, from Trivett in Paramatta, via CarSales. I think I was pretty lucky because there are not many like that which come up! That was back in late 2012.

Mine is Stornaway Grey and is extensively pin striped from the tight sand tracks in WA. After the first couple of times, I have given up worrying about it! It certainly shows up with the grey and even the black window surrounds and Safari snorkle are very badly scratched and show up the scratches worse than the body paint does.

Thanks for the reply. Given the amount I go off road you are right it shouldn't be a show stopper. If I go second hand I will keep this in mind but for $700 or what ever the option is I will be sure to add it.

From the Hilux it will be a huge change. Just to have lumber support will be a luxury.

Thanks Jack, I am leaning towards a new car so there is little question as to the cars history and then I can have all the options I desire but the LCT is hard to swallow.

Thanks Bob. I went through the show us your car thread last night and I really like the grey cars. The one I ordered back in 2012 was Orkney Grey but since owning a Blue Hilux I am thinking white is the go.

Some more info would be good Scary if you have it. I had a quick look through carsales and can't find one.

Thanks all for your replies thus far. I am finding it hard to sleep just thinking I will finally be able to order a D4. God help me a week out from delivery.

    Cheers

    Ben,

My son's white D1 is very badly scratched but it is harder to see them on his car that it is on the D4. You have to look closely to see them whereas they are very obvious on the grey and the black on mine. However, I think that the D4 white is a very brilliant colour and will not hide the scratches like the faded old white on a 20 year old D1!

Thanks Bob, I hear what you're saying. I'm starting to think that with the way I treat and maintain my cars I should get the colour I want (one of the greys) as I will spot a scratch/blemish in the paint work a mile away.
