    Rear Park Aid Speaker Muted

The loud squark that the rear parking aid speaker used to make has suddenly become muted. I can barely hear it beeping when reversing into a park.

I checked to see if there was some huge mattress that I'd stuffed in the back, and forgotten about, but no. Nothing in the back at all.

Do these speakers fail at all?. Does anybody know how to remove the C-pillar trim to take a look?. Do you need to remove the big torx head seat belt mounting bolt to get the trim off?

This should help you get behind the interior trim. As for the speaker failing, haven't heard of that before.

RPDC speaker failing isn't an unheard of thing, quite a common thing with the older vehicles now, speaker filling with dust etc.

    About $20-30 easy fix.

Isn't the volume controlled by the audio unit? Mine is, but I have the Tech Pack so there may a difference if you don't. Have you tried adjusting the audio volume control when the system is active.

I don't think so. I just checked the wiring diagram. There's no involvement of the head unit volume in the circuit at all.

I also adjust the volume of my parking sensors with the volume buttons on the steering wheel.

Must be a fancy D4 innovation then. I'll check the old girl and see if she can perform this trick, but I doubt it.

Earlier D4s, it couldn't be adjusted my MY13 it can be. Not sure when that change occurred between MY10 and 13.

Mine failed recently. Was making a squeaking sound, then no sound. Caused the PDC light to stay on in the dash as well. Pretty cheap part and quite easy to replace if you follow the Topix instructions to remove the rear panel. I was told it was the ECU that failed so I had ordered one of those as well but it wasn't needed. I have a ECU available for sale if anyone needs one
