An awning is on my list ...some time after the roof rack..... looks like you just made the decision slightly more expensive
Yes they are pricey, but well worth it IMO.

What is it like in the wind? if you were swaging it under the wing and it came up windy and or rain , would you have to pack it up quickly?

They are very difficult to put up or take down when it is windy, but rain is no problem. And once up,if it is windy,it has to be well secured.
In fact with my foxing,i will take it down if it is a windy night,as there needs to be someone keeping an eye on it during very windy weather.

I'd have to agree with that. Used to have a Foxwing and whilst it was easy to setup and pack away on nice days, it became a 3-person PITA job once the wind hit. I sold it for that reason.

Well from everyone I've spoken too on this subject, it's a 2 person job in windy conditions, but once up, not an issue, there are no ropes with the Rapid Wing, the awning is secured by pegs(2) in the bottom of each pole.

When I spoke to Supapeg, they said you can add ropes if it gets too extreme, but otherwise not really needed.

Any awning no matter what brand will be affected by strong wind, I have camped with various people of the years with different types of awnings, most have survived strong winds, apart from one incident with a mate and his Foxwing, but he still had those piddley standard ropes, the Foxwing does tend to flap alot in the wind and you do need to use more ropes to secure it, if it had poles that could be pegged into the ground at the base, I think that would help a lot.

Anyway I'm happy with the Rapid Wing.

I've had my Foxwing up in pretty windy weather and it does need two people to put it out or away safely in the wind, but it is as secure as any awning or tent in the wind and that means it is dependent on how well you have it pegged and tied down.

I love my Foxwing and have had not problems at all with it. I have heard of people who for whatever reason have had their a flip over in the wind and this breaks the knuckles on the spreaders, but apparently they are readily available and easy to replace.

if you are on the beach than you need ropes........sand pegs wont fit through the holes in the feet of the poles. ours launched over the car with two ropes and sand pegs.

no wind is a piece of cake with one person, two if its windy, we have the supa wing which is an extra pole and spreader bar

we pre-set the poles to the height required and attach the straps than roll out the wing

I looked at the fox but decided on canvas....on moreton the fox wing next to us did flap in the breeze, it could have been they way they set it up.

I now carry spare knuckles.....I away put one rope on regardless of ground surface, in saying that 90% of times its been but up is when we are on the beach for the day, have never set it up when back at the camper or lunch stops

I believe they have improved the design of the cover since mine, mine leaks water in so I have to unzip it at times to let it dry out so that mould does starts

    its a big investment....but a worthwhile one
