Thread: Key fob rubber adhesive

My theory: Its a product of the rubber reacting with diesel residue on hands - I'm nearly certain of it.

The key that never was touched after fuelling (I was the one fuelling the vehicle) is perfectly ok. The one I use and therefore gets handled after fuelling was the one that gave the issue.

It's a good theory, however mine has peeled and it has never seen a diesel infected hand..
Tried to get it replaced under the extended warranty was refused as it is "cosmetic". Dealer suggested I apply again in a month or two as the side with the buttons is now peeling.

Might be but I am sure that it is just body oils (they seem to be pretty aggressive to many materials).

It seemed to cause rapid deterioration of mine this last summer.

All good now thanks to local locksmith who carries the blank cartridge BUT, my choice of 'superglue' wasn't as effective as I thought when I dropped the recently repaired key case and the contents were disgorged just a quickly as a bad curry on a Friday nite...

I then cleaned up the old glue and settled on a shoe repair glue which has a degree of flexibility but is still waterproof.
