Roo Systems D4 update video / extras fitted

    Hi all,

Not sure if we want this in Videos but here is Roo Systems D4 update.

He has fitted a few accessories now including LLAMS.

Don't bother watching all the way through once he gets to the 80s Toyota!

    Interesting about the exhaust though.

Good to see Llams get a plug, pity he didn't show more detail on the exhaust.

It might just be me being a sceptical old git, but with all their claims of huge power increases...my muppet alarm goes off every time I see more...

I wonder how you get more power and use less fuel, but most of the chip sellers claim this.
Probably as well as tricking the ECU, the fuel consumption parameters in the trip computer also tricked?
(Not that the LR trip computer is accurate - reads very much on the frugal side)

I've just had a remap done and they claim less fuel consumption, I think if you drive sedately, this can be the case. On the freeway last week, sitting on 90-95 and driving very carefully, I managed 6.5l/100km on the trip computer (I know it under reads), but I've never had it that low. However use your right foot a bit and the consumption is higher by about 10%. I believe for every action, there has to be an opposite reaction (That's what they tought me in physics at school), go faster, drink more fuel.

There's the rub - you don't want to drive sedately when you've had a remap.
Why have a remap if you're going to drive sedately.

Coming from a Prado, I'm more than happy with what the SDV6 has.
And it uses less fuel than what the Prado did.

I'm sure your muppet alarm will be clanging like mad at the moment. It's great to see one of these places take on a Disco though, and move away from the standard Troll/Cruiser brigade.

However, it just irks me that he hasn't seemingly taken it offroad yet, and the first thought was "more power needed".

I had the remap done purely for the extra grunt and I'm happy with the result. Was curious about the consumption, so reset the trip computer and drove it slower than grandma would on the freeway to see what the result was. By the way it's the 2.7TDV6, not the 3.0L.

Do like the extra grunt though and can live with an extra 1 or 2 litres per 100km.

Always good to see a vendor who is prepared to make an investment into performance upgrades for the D4. Without people like Glenn at Roos Systems pushing the limits on the Tdv6, or Jose at td5inside pushing the limits on the td5 and being prepared to do it to their own vehicles first to find the limits then the rest of us will never learn the true potential of our vehicles. That is what development is all about.

When you look at the graph, looks more like a 35-38% improvement which is not unrealistic for a remap. When you do this you are taking up the factors of safety to find the true reliability limit, but providing your make sure you keep the right foot connected to the brain, I am sure you could have some good fun with this D4.

And when he does find the next weak link, this will trigger the next upgraded parts.

I do appreciate however that he is somewhat humble in admitting that he knows nothing about LR & is learning heaps thanks to people who do know (primarily Mitchell bros by the look of the advertising in the vid). I guess he hit the power upgrade 1st because that is what his business is known for (in the toyossan world)

Absolutely it's good to see people willing to push some boundaries and develop these things. My TD5 was chipped and with that engine and many others I can fully see why someone would want to.

Same to a lesser extent with the 2.7 Tdv6. I've always been a bit of a petrol head and I do like powerful cars.

However a standard 3.0 SDV6 is already pushing 600Nm... I remain very sceptical that you can push that up by the quoted 40-45% with out breaking bits.... even if you do "keep the right foot connected to the brain" most of the time..

I am no engineer - so I could easily be wrong.... but I would be very surprised if you could put 850Nm (42%increase) through a D4 driveline for long before your wallet exploded.

What he is doing with his own vehicle looks like fun - and I am looking forward to the next few episodes.... it will be interesting so see how much all that additional power helps off road.
