    Wot I did

    Hi Andy,
Just as an Idea I'm not sure if your D4 is a seven seater, however my RRS was, I had the same problem, storage.............

My way around this was to take out the sixth and seventh seats and put a marine ply floor where the seats used to be. The area under the seats is carpeted anyway. I found I had enough room under the marine ply to store a lot of filters, belts a tyre repair kit, spanners, snatch strap shackles etc etc. The little hatch on the right gave ample access, directly under the hatch I had a cutlery tray I bought from Ikea that fitted perfectly, I kept mainly spanners in the tray. I also drilled a hole in the ply to get access to the winding mechanism that I then used an electric hand tool to wind the spare wheel up and down. In the sport the fuses are also on the left I had to cut a small hole to give access.

I used the seat belt anchor points to hold the marine ply in place, never rattled or broke loose. The Engel slide mounted perfectly on the marine ply and allowed the fridge to slide in and out easily.

    Just an idea.

    Cheers Marty.

I will use this thread to continue to post upgrades to Snow White in fitting her out for touring.
Ive sold the D2 so have some money to spend.
Sofar,I have ordered an ARB delux winch bar,a set of Fyrlyt spotties,a Traxide DBS including the rear anderson plug and a suitable wiring kit for the Fyrlyts.
Tommorow Im picking up an Engel fridge slide and visiting my Bro to work out how we are going about setting the rear up.Im building the steel frame,he is doing the woodwork.
Also will be getting a uhf with handset display and a trailer brake controler shortly.
That lot will almost gobble the D2 money up,MAY have enough left for a Hema navigator as I went sans factory GPS and Tomarse Tomarse has died.

Just keep a eye on the weight. It is surprising how fast it adds up.

I like the Kaymar rear bar and wheel carrier, but you have to start seriously considering weight if you are also adding other accessories.

Speaking with ADMIRAL at his place of work earlier this week - he told me that he is getting very close to weight limit with his when set up for touring.

I haven't weighed mine yet - will do it when I get a chance up in Kal sometime. I have access to a weighbridge through friends in road transport business up there.
    Cheers .........

I had the dual tank in the Defender and it gave me peace of mind on some trips and it allowed me to skip some ultra exxy fuel stops and push through to a larger town. But the previous owner paid for it not me. Now I have the D4 with its admittedly pretty average range but I have to say I can't make the sums work in my favour. I don't think I'm going to be more than 700km between fuel stops in the type of touring I'll be doing in this car. If I do a jerry might be enough.

Andrew, you'll be towing so you might be more concerned about range but on the other hand taking an empty jerry or two on standby will be easier. Furthermore I access the luggage space much more often than I need a second spare.

I liked the 2nd spare in the Defender and I'd like it even more with my 19" rims on the D4. But I think about the coin and have not got to the place where I need to spend it yet.

I have looked at BMKals single spare, its easy to operate and doesnt interfere with the rear acsess at all,its so easy to use.
The long range tanks take the place of the spare so until somebody works how to fit a defender wheel carier to the bonnet a spare carrier is required.
