    Roof Rack for D4

    Hi,

Has anyone purchased a roof Rack for their D4 from AussieAuto Parts and Accessories

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291053475444'ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1423.l2649

I would need to buy the extension rails at $299 but my main concernis the height after it is installed with the mounts and cage, i.e. I need to getinto car parks at 2.1 m. They say the cage is 160 mm high but they do not sayhow high the mounting brackets are I sent a message asking them. If it is toohigh even in access mode how easy are these things to take on and off? Thealloy one is only 25Kg whereas the steel one is 55 kg.

    Appreciate your comments.

That is very heavy for a steal one IMO. I use a BaJa rack steal and it's 27kg full length. At 160mm high that will be to high to gain access to a 2.1m car park even at access height. My rack in general is 165mm with feet and comes in at 2050 at regular height, lowered to access measures 2000mm. Unless you put a front runner rack on or similar you might struggle with that brand. Those feet do look tall in the pictures. Good luck

    Regards Billy

This will give you an idea of the profile to my roofline, considerably lower, but not as low as a front runner!

    I have this

    Fit My Car | Rhino-Rack

Looking at the part I highlighted in RED, I wonder, is it full alloy

Enhanced Design Model Number NR1169; Please note this item is painted in Black.
No Drilling, No Modifications on your roof is required to install this Roof Rack, as long as you have the extended roof rails on your Discovery 3 /4.
Our unique and easy-to-use mounting system will fit nicely into the rails; and it makes it easy to remove and reinstall the racks if it is not needed.
The enhanced design roof rack has 10 internal cross bars and 8 mounting brackets to create the most rigid roof rack in the market.
The rack is made in full compliance of international standards ISO 11154-1:1995 and meets Australian standards for roof racks (AS 1235-2000).
We use 32mm heavy duty round steel tube for both the frame and internal bars; it provides strong support to the cargo loaded. The design allows the rack to load the maximum loading allowed by your vehicle.
    Specifications:
Size: 2200mmx1200mmx160mm (LxWxH external measurement). New design with lower clearance per Australian customers' feedbacks.
Basket size: 2060x1090x110mm (LxWxH internal measurement)
    Weight: 25kg

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

That place sells both steel and alloy versions of basically the same rack. I very much suspect they've messed-up the description.

I seriously considered getting the alloy version and making brackets so that it bolted directly to the roof but found an alternate solution.

I think you'll find the total load on the roof is 75kg, so if your rack weighs 55kg you have 20kg left for payload....not really worth the effort of having the rack ? I'd be looking for the 25kg or less versions
