    D4 rims

Hi all, just asking this question for a mate.

    He wants a 2nd set of rims for his 2010 2.7 D4.

I read through the FAQ and it seems that 17" will fit ok.

It says that the BB-6 from Performance Wheels fit but I was a bit worried about the offset. The BB-6 have a +20 offset which makes them a a lot wider than the standard +57 offset.

I'd like to here your thoughts and recommendations for wheels. I think he is on a budget and would rather spend money in tyres so anything cheap, even steel rims are fine.

Hi Adam, BMW X5 rims will also fit the D4, they are 17 x 7.5 with +40 from memory, year range is 2001 to 2006 only, there are 3 designs, these are one of 3, the centre locating hole is identical, but you must use specific wheel nut for these rims to fit them to the D4.

I can't find the link to the wheel nuts, someone should be along soon to give the link.

Here are the other style of X5 rims, I had these on our D4 for 18mths, still have 4 in the shed, have a few scratches on them, OK if you don't care or are going to repaint them.

I don't think scratches will matter if they are only for offroad.

Let me know or PM me with a price and I will let him know. I'm trying to talk him out of steel rims but it all comes down to price.

    Thanks

No worries, the BB-6 rims had issues early on, (cracking)but I believe that has been sorted and they are now good, the newer rims now allow you to use the D4 wheel nuts, there are a few on the forum that use them and are very pleased with them.

As for steel rims, there have been a few guys with cracked steel rims, mostly Dynamic, nothing has been done to fix this I believe.

Thanks Baz. And what is the largest tyre he can safely fit?

I was thinking 265/70-17 or can you go a bit larger.

Depends on whether he has rear air, there is a mod to move the aircon pipes that cause the issue though, largest and legally is 817mm rolling diameter, 275/70/17, genuine 32s, just sneaks in the 7% mark for NSW, they will rub if you have rear air though, 265/70/17 is fine, which is what most use.

    Have a read of this;

    no rear air.

    just called caterbury wheels, quoted $345ea MUD-TERRAIN T/A KM2
265/70R17 121Q, and some 17" steel wheel @ $120 each. But they didnt know whether it would fit... dont think they knew what a discovery was.

the tyres im getting my head around now, but rims i have no idea as everyone seems so muddled about it
