HF Aerial Mount For D4 Swing away

The mount sold by the SW manufacturer (Outback) mounts central to wheel. I don't want to remove antenna each time I access spare.. a dumb idea. Anyway my mechanic says the 'ole in the D$ rim is too small anyway. Kaymar make a mount to fit on swing bar behind wheel.. but will it fit the Outback bar? Kaymar has so far failed to answer my emails re dimensions of the fitting "u" section. I'm not aware of any other manufacturers out there, would never consider fitting to bull bar. Any ideas?

Someone will pop up with the Kaymar bar and measure it for you. ( Baz, Geoff?)
    Mines another brand again.

Looks like the main one that Kaymar are flogging also mounts through the centre of the wheel.

It would be a pretty simple matter to knock up something yourself to fit the Outback Accessories SWC though. I'm running the Outback wheel carrier and reckon I could make up something that works in less than half an hour.
    Cheers .........

Do want this type? So do I but they are overpriced. I'd make one but I wouldn't trust my welding.

I'll measure my Kaymar swingaway carrier and come back and edit this post.

Or this one which is shown for the D3 on the Kaymar site:

    Yes, overpriced

Thanks.. I've decided to make one up - a few dollars worth of steel. No=ne of those available are ideal and all would probably need some mods. I'll post my efforts on here when I get a round tuit.

If you are installing an HF set, make sure you ground the antenna to the bracket and also ground the bracket to the car chassis.

On p38arover's images you can see a continuous braided ground wire, coming down from the 9360 to the Kaymar bracket and then re-enters the conduit to presumably ground on the chassis.

You should also add additional ground wires between the upper tailgate and body, the lower tailgate and body, similar with all doors and and additional one between the body and chassis close to where the 9360 grounds as well. make the locations obvious so they can be seen for body off operations.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    My adaptation,

It is important for most effiency to raise the top section of the Codan as high above and away from the body as possible.

I developed an adjustable system that allows me to slide the antenna up/down as required. While out and about it is raised to the max, around town at the low point which is 2050 mm, enough to provide clearance at most car parks.

I also experimented with a number of earth points, the most suitable earth point is below the rear light assembly where there is a body clinch nut/barrel like, this holds a 6mm bolt and is the best earth point connected to the Body mass

    Regards
