    D3 TDV6 RPM Hunting

    Hi all,
I’m new to AULRO having just bought a 2009 D3.
I had a couple of problems; one was engine light on and another the engine rpm fluctuates between 1.5-2k at all speeds at those revs. I had the car re-mapped thinking it was an egr fault but the re-map cured the engine light by deleting the egr's. The revs still hunt. The guy that re-mapped the car said that a U0100 code kept showing up. He cleared the code but it kept coming back, not sure if it is related. If I go in manual mode the rpm does not fluctuate.
Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Other than the above all is great coming from a D2 there is no comparison.

    Thanks Buzz

Look at some of the gearbox threads and see if that sounds like your problem.

    Hi Buzz,
As mentioned it is time to check things associated with the gearbox. Same thing happened to me, same symptoms not long after I bought my D3 a few months ago. Mine had done 190k and as far as I can work out hadn't had a gearbox oil change. I fitted the steel pan conversion and refilled with LG 6 oil, so far since doing that everything has been fine. "touch wood"............. I've recently posted my D3 oil sample test results on this forum from my gearbox versus a new oil sample.

    Thanks Nomad9,
I googled the fault code and it said it was a loss communication with the ECU, you don’t think this could be affecting it?

More likely to be that it needs the transmission fluid changed. Loss of communication faults are somewhat common and unremarkable and can be caused by the tech plugging their tool in and out at the wrong time.

    Hi Buzz,
I like your style, keep that cup half full, 180k no oil change I would be looking to save up for some oil and do an oil change, then worry about the ECU communication.

A & B transmissions in Dandenong do a kit, plus others.........

Exactly, my mechanic showed me a 2005 D3 HSE with 340,000km. It was driven hard (quite muddy when in shop) but no tranny service or even belt change. Got brought in because it was making a funny noise "can you hear" - to mechanic over the phone). Idler pulley died. Overdue service items then identified.

Although I was surprised it was a 2005 model, it looked newer.

    Hi All,

I have just ordered the new steel transmission sump on ebay, will do some research on which oil. I’ll let you know how I get on.
