    Fuel Pump Failure Recall

Sorry folks posted in complete wrong section. Not that savvy on the protocol. purchased a TDv6 last year and love it. Or did!
Had my first problem with hand brake failing and replaced it. Then I started to have strange surge, power loss experiences causing ultimately an engine fault code unable to start car at all. He got diagnostics done on it checked them with LD dealership and they decided it was the Mechanics replaced fuel transfer pump, initially somewhat costly! But well stuff happens. I drive for 3 days and cars goes into super limp mode on four lane 120km hour highway! 4 hours in 37c later......Back at mechanics he gets replacement lift pump and installs and 3 days later same happens. After diagnostics again...He now tells me its the high pressure fuel pump and it appears its bearng has dried out? It freaking expensive to replace too. And why have diagnostics if it doesn't find the bloody right fault?! (Sorry have been a Toyota driver for 20 years prior) I googled and discovered a govt. listed recall extension to vins covering mine, issued in 2010 for the high pressure fuel pump bearing being faulty and not lubricating sufficiently and failing. I rang Land Rover to ask if this recall had very been actioned and they were very cagey.
Has any one else had this failure and been under this recall notice, initiated it and had problem resolved?

    Ps TDV6 2008 RRS.

That recall only covers hpfp that have failed due to leaks from the pump shaft I believe. If it isn't leaking it isn't covered. Because these are a high pressure and precision item, they are also prone to wear and damage due to ingress of contaminants. Trying to prove it is faulty and not just worn at a reasonable age/ km is very hard.

    Rubbish!
The recall applies to all vehicles in the VIN and pump must be replaced.
The failure can cause HP atomised diesel to be sprayed all over the engine bay, sales were stopped in Russia due to fires.
It would be worth pushing this issue with LR. Speak to the LR dealership yourself and they will be be able to tell you if it has been replaced and by whom. If it has been replaced and the belt has not been tensioned properly it can fail again. In that case claim from dealer who replaced it.
Don't back down it was a major safety recall and could have caused a fire.

Rubbish is not a tactful response but I do agree with the rest. The recall applied to all vehicles in the VIN range irrespective whether there was a problem or not. My pump was fine but was replaced.

Lizzie - if you have a problem getting an answer out of LR you can put your VIN into Topix Home | TOPIx and it will tell you if there are any outstanding recalls - if there are none it either means it has been done or was not required.

    So can we assume that:

"There are currently no outstanding Field Service Actions for this vehicle"

on Topix means this has been fixed, if the vehicle is in the VIN range?

Yes - that is how I found that my vehicle had not been done - I then took it to the dealer who confirmed it had not been done and it was then booked in and done along with the brake booster recall. (this is the only time other than the post purchase inspection that my car has been to a dealer).

Checking Topix after the work showed that there were now "No Outstanding Actions"

Ok it was a bit strong.
But it can mislead others to believe it did not have to be replaced.

Lizard if you go to a LR dealer they will be able to tell you what has been done by the LR dealer network. Take your rego papers in case they start quoting privacy.

Good luck and keep at em if you think it is the initial problem or the way it was installed.

The replacement could also have been the same batch as the problem ones if LR Aust used their early stock.

I have heard the opposite, pumps not leaking from front do not form a basis for a claim, especially since these vehicles are getting up there in km's now.
