I wouldn't go past the BOAB system I have in mine. You can buy them "off the shelf". Installation is a breeze - you can do it yourself easily. You can purchase additional plastic boxes so that you can have one lot set up for travelling / camping and the other set for work or whatever you prefer. Simply lift out one set and put the other set in. The only mod I've made for the D4 is to install a length of inch square steel tubing under the rear lip to give the angle required for the drawer to clear the tailgate.

The other big advantage is the ability to easily move the unit between different make / model vehicles. Mine has been in a Prado, my old D2 and now the D4.

Of course, if you intend leaving your spare where under the vehicle, this is probably not the best choice.

My fridge is a 40L Engel, so the lid opens at 90 degrees to how yours opens.

You can buy tilting fridge slides, but they're somewhere between $400 and $500 for the ones that I've seen. There's plenty of plans around the interweb on how to convert an existing slide. The one below is using the same Engel fridge slide that I already have, and looks like an Engel 40L sitting on the ground behind it. This one looks like what I need and pretty simple to make - but I would want to have something decent to lock it down flat when travelling.



I've also looked at the "drop down" style of fridge slide. There's some very good ones out there, but I'm not prepared to pay the money they're asking for them. Also, I haven't come across one which has the reach to allow the fridge to come out over the bottom tailgate if I choose not to open it before lowering, so not really what I'm looking for.

The other thing that is waiting for a "round tuit" is a cage over / around the fridge as you have. I have been wanting to do this ever since I saw some photos of your set-up a while back. It's on the list.
