Just a thought. Why don't you mount the antenna directly on top of the bar using one of these.
That way the antenna is mounted higher up than the holes provided in the wings, improving reception, plus you don't have to weld anything to the bar.
Just wondering if anyone with and ARB bar and an OL bar would mind throwing up some measurements from the top hoop to the bonnet on the side wings. I'd recently brought a second hand ARB bar and since it needs painting/powder coating I'd thought I'd have a look at the possiblity of welding some UHF antenna mounts on. I know the OL bar has them and the ARB dosent. So I was wondering if the reason why the ARB bar dosent have them is because of the top hoop being closer to the bonnet or not?

For an ARB bar measurent from top of hoop to bonnet at closest point on the side wings = 57mm
Don't know what the measurements are on an OL bar, but on the ARB .......

About 80mm clearance towards the outside of the hoop and about 60mm closer in to the centre of the vehicle. I have a plastic bonnet stone guard on mine and I've only measured to that - if you don't have one of these, you could add between 5 and 10 mm to the measurements above.
I've used one of these clamp on brackets for my telephone aerial - still has a reasonable amount of clearance.
To at least partially overcome the height issue for the UHF aerial, I've cheated. Used to have one of those large white GME aerials on the vehicle, but I've hit too many things with it and it never worked all that well anyway. So I undid the alan key in the top of the spring base and removed the white part of the aerial, and replaced it with a stainless steel whip I bought from the local ARB store in Kalgoorlie. The thread inside the top of the spring base is the same as the thread on the bottom of the S/S whip. There was a bit of a gap around the outside of the joint - filled this with silastic. This aerial works far better than the GME one ever did.

Cheers .........

Just had a quick measure of my D4 OL bar, much the same as BMKals ARB bar.
The antenna brackets are 50mm for the outer pair and the single inner is 40mm from the bonnet.
Aprox measures as I didnt want the bonnet to lock, cant open the passenger door where its parked at the moment.
If you need more presice measures and pics like Brians yell out.

Mine is identical to BMkal.(AR
Us D4 owners definitely have one up on the Deefer owners,i bet their measurements would not be consistent
i have seen over 25mm difference in the distance between the two front chassis rails on two similar MY Pumas.
Cheers guys, looks like I might make the effort to weld on some new tabs (I got a couple spare on my trashed bull bar from my 80 series)

You should have seen it after I got back from Perth the other night. There's about 50km of roadworks on the Perth side of Coolgardie at the moment and, as Murphy's Law will tell you - the water cart was just in front of me through most of it.
But I have to admit that Nano-tech Diamond Shield stuff I got from the states a year or so ago makes it very easy to wash the crap (and bugs) off. And since installing the Akebono brake pads, the wheels don't get black any more.
Cheers .........

Brain - Some gloss black inside the bonnet protector looks great....
Shane, There is a reasoning behind not having those tabs... A top strike can move the bar enough to do bonnet damage... Use top mounts if you must, or the blade like Brain has... The ARB bars did have them initially, but they removed them because most just fit the antenna off to the side (passenger appreciates this from a vision point of view too) and the potential damage.
