Mungus the height of the trims you ended up with is spot on for contact with a D1 doors.Smaller cars such as my daughters Laser seem to contact lower down, approximately 250mm up from the top edge of the lower plastic trim.So I will have a go at fitting at this height.
I went cheaper than genuine, bought Bearmach VLAP0013 but the cut on the front piece is acute to follow the wheel arch, it will still do the job.Pity because I could have got them for a bit more from Land Rover Discovery 3/4 Side Body Moldings / Rubbing Strips

Leaving the D4 at normal height, we have managed to avoid a lot a damage in shopping centre car parks. The strips definitely help, but if you leave the vehicle up, the sidesteps also take some of the punishment.

An argument for selecting off-road height before parking????

When I decided on a different (hopefully) more protective height, I found that no matter what height I chose, it was the rear doors of different car makes that would still make contact regardless, due to the rear wheel arch shape. I actually much prefer the look of these strips at the original designed position. It makes the gap between the strip and the flat on the door bottom before the sill mould look balanced.
    Cheers, Mungus.

Mungus, did you just get a local paint shop to paint them by giving them the LR colour number? I assume you can't buy them already colour coded. Do you just stick them on yourself?

    Cheers,

    Scott,
I got the dealer to organise for me. Local paint shop who is authorised repairer of BMW to name a few. They only come in black. You could quite easily stick them on yourself, but I got them to do it. First time as part of the dealer sale and second time due to the initial incorrect fitting. Any paint shop would be able to colour code if you gave them the paint code, or you could do it yourself with a S/Cheap touch-up spray can made from the paint code. Just clean the door panels really well and use sticky tape or similar to provide an alignment guide. The instructions that come with them are pretty easy to follow regarding measured alignment, correct application of pressure etc... If you were to take them off after fitting, say to correct alignment, they will end up have flat spot indentations in them (like the bottom plastic on Playdos door panels) which is why I asked him to order new ones.
    Cheers, Mungus.
