Trailer towing trip done in a day!!

Well today was the day i had to tow my partners Audi back to Townsville for the dealers to have a look at a weird fault with the trans coming up, we had a heavy duty trailer that weighed 1.2t and the car weighed 2t so all up we 3.2t!! I couldn't believe how well the Disco towed it bloody awesome just ate up the kms no problem at all sat on 108kms most of the way up fully loaded and back home empty we sat on 110km and a little bit more on the back roads!! It was an awesomely comfortable trip the car performed overtaking and just cruising so well it blew me away!!

Fully loaded with litres and kms not reading the trip computer at an average speed of 108km we used 15.7L/100kms and empty i haven't actually fuelled up but I'm guessing its pretty much the same as we poked along a bit quicker to get home!!

For the day we did 1100kms return and it took 12hours so really happy, fingers crossed the Audi bill is half reasonable

They make long drives so damn easy, don't they....

Got a 2000 km round trip to do, with 1500 km in one day, coming up on the weekend. Can't wait.

    Hi Nat 89
Glad you enjoyed the tow. I do hope there is not much wrong with your partners car. I got my Disco about the same day you got your Disco
and I too was impressed with the way the Disco towed my caravan the first time.
    So all the best

    regards Kev

Thanks Kev!! Haha that's awesome they are a top car jeeze I keep banging on but I love it was really looking forward to having a big tow to see how it towed and the fuel and both things I was really happy with had no problem at all!! Mind you we were pushing into a bloody huge headwind coming home so I reckon that knocked us around a fair bit it kept going back to 7th to keep up to the cruise speed which was a bit annoying but ahwell it had to be done!

As for the Audi jeeze who knows apparently my local mechanic said his computer is saying transmission temp sensor took it to Audi and they charge $154 an hour to fault find far out blew me away their prices but gotta be fixed so fingers crossed an easy fix.

Was there enough power with the D2 I've only driven one once before it was a stock TD5 and it felt a little under powered that was bloody like 9 years ago so I have forgot but I still love them and wouldn't actually mind one. Well you'll love how the D4 tows I mean you could feel the load there but it always felt in control did a great job. I think I had got myself nervous after reading on the aulro Facebook page a fella complaining about his caravan towing really badly with the D4 so I had gotten a bit nervous which leads me to believe it's probably his caravan now!! But jeeze tows good.

No problems at all,my D2 had plenty in reserve, the torque was impressive.
Used to cut firewood with a great mate. His trailer carted 1.5t max, single axle,as mutch as we could fit on it,mine 2t as much as I dared to put on it(no trailer brakes).
Baz had an 80 Series tojo,4.2 diesel. On the long hill into town I would watch the mirror for the first black smoke cloud(Baz just went to 4th) then the second black smoke cloud(Baz just resorted to 3rd).Every time I would call him up as he got futher behind and say,Im still doing 110kmh and Im still in 5th.Geez it would wind him up cruel!!!!!

    Thumbs down

    Hi Andrew
I think it may have been the way the caravan is loaded or maybe the weight of the caravan. mine is just under 3 ton loaded. travels well behind our Disco 4. you only feel it is when the foot is applied to the brake pedal.

Any way good to you and Nat 89 have as must fun as I do towing with our great Disco 4s

    regards Kev

Ahh did you see the one on Facebook page last week as well Kev? I think it was either the caravan something going on there as he had the Alko trailer sway thing and yeah it kinda had me a bit nervous after seeing that but well after towing 550kms fully loaded one and then another 550kms empty it really showed how amazing it towed!! Just the empty part was a bit of a pain as the trailer was a little bit bouncy haha.
