hi. i will explain what is happening and what i have done,i am after suggestions as to the cause and a possible fix.thanks
towing on a flat road at 1800 rpm.esf stop take out key reset go again and after 120klms on a flat road 1800 rpm esf.same procedure at carry on.Does this 3 more times.then when towing a small toolbox trailer under load this time esf.REMOVE PIPE TO EGR VALVES. blank off.ok for 3 weeks.Have been told that i cant blank off my car MY08. so today removed left hand side egr as this was showing a fault on my reader.egr moving freely,i had previously removed both and found them seized up and serviced them. left side egr was ok but i still cleaned and refitted with all pipes, any ideas as to what could be causing this.I had taken car to a dealer and had the codes read but nothing comes up.i am due to go away with the van at the end of the month and feel i cant trust this car. cheers

    Hi Bowrider

I assume you mean Engine System Fault. I've just been to QLD and back in my 2009 RRS, should be same motor, 2.7TDV6 and had this fault come up numerous times on the trip. Each time it occurred it was under load during an overtake, not a great time to get restricted performance, however I did notice that during restricted performance, if you put your foot to the floor, it would over ride the performance restriction, I suppose a safety feature.

Keen to hear the outcome, as I can't make the fault re occur around town, but seems to happen after some time on the highway first.

As mentioned it occurred about 10 times on route to Qld and back, previously it had occurred about 3-4 times in 12 months.

I'm off to my independent on Tuesday to get it looked at, the day before I headed to Qld, it happened and they put their computer on the car, which showed a turbo related fault, but said that as it has reset, they wouldn't start anything as it could be a couple of items causing the fault.

Let us know how you go.

    Cheers

    Andrew

    hi kingo.
u r correct.it is system fault.as i have explained it was not under load on the first part and barley on the throttle,so not under load.on that occasion i feel it was a load of bad fuel,Green in colour bought at brunswick heads.Have been told it was winter fuel,go figure at that point as it is on the coast and was in the middle of october. The last time it did it was coming into buladealah, again not under load,The last stretch to home was about 210klms all good. The other time i refered to was underload towing a toolbox trailer.Just the other day it did it again without anything on the back and not under load.On each occasion i did try putting the boot in but nothing had to pull over and reset. This has been going now for almost 2 years.i have had it on the autologic and shows nothing that could a definite.its almost time to get rid of it

Yeah I agree it sounds like a bad batch of fuel, have you refilled since with fuel from a large known brand? If you have it also makes sense if it's getting better as there is less crap left.

Bad fuel can do all sorts of damage to newer diesel engines, hopefully you escaped this.

Maybe best to get the tank flushed and a new fuel filter fitted as well.
This can happen to any vehicle, not really fault of the make.

Delaminating hoses on the intercooler can also cause this issue.

    hi, update on my problem.
last weekend i removed the blanking and serviced the left side egr valve that was showing a fault.put back together and tested with the van on up a really good hill, where i have had an issue b4.All good.i am picking up a new silicone intercooler hose and fitting to be on the safe side.I did remove the existing hose and no obvious splits but who knows how bad it is.I am going on a trip to the sunshine coast in a couple of days,so here is hoping the issue is resolved.I will post the outcome when i get back.
    thanks for the imput
