Thread: Just got my APT sliders installed

Very difficult choice given the great offerings from Ben at APT and Brad's Metfit but after much contemplation, well probably dithering really, over which sliders to go for and having pored over the forum for the good oil I decided to go for GOE sliders with standoff bars. In the end the weight difference was the deciding factor.


I also (special) ordered checkerplate infill panels. I've just received them from Gordon. Should get onto the installation this weekend and will post up some pics but here is one quick one:

Don't know but I will get them on the scales before I install them and post the result. Pretty easy to hold in one hand though.

For data purposes:

GOE 2 @ 9.0 - 18kg
APT 2 @ 17.0 - 34kg


Observations:

GOE Slider has a 48% weight saving over APT
GOE slider should have the "end cap" to allow the rear wheel arch liner to be screwed securely.
GOE slider appears that water/mud will pool on the top plate ** happy to be corrected **

APT slider doesn't require modification to front edge of guard
APT has smooth underplate which assists sliding without hooking on outriggers.
APT drains easily - even with step plates as they are perforated.


Both are excellent AUSSIE MADE products. Anyone looking to purchase would do well with either.

Adding a couple of thoughts ....

The smooth underside Tombie mentions is an excellent feature.
Both for sliding over obstacles and also minimising mud/stones flung up towards the doors.
I believe it will also add significantly to the overall strength against side impacts, although the steel tube alone is pretty strong.



It is however more difficult to keep clean compared to no plate. Dirt & dust does collect on its upper surface.
It is free draining but does require a fair bit of hosing to push all dirt out from the edges created between the tube and flat plate.



As an alternative, the step-tread version looks like this:

Not sure how good they are with mud etc and cleaning.

I think the GOE deluxe would be better as a step but may be problematic for cleaning (as mentioned).

One more small addition to this. During my selection deliberations. Ben at APT advised me as follows (about the APT sliders with the infill panels as per pic above):
"The infills are a very expensive way of doing the job so we don't do them that way anymore.
We've managed to fit tread plates to the sliders now for those that want them.
As far as colour goes, the aluminium was raw so it has that matt light silver look. The alum plates can definitely be powdercoated a darker grey or black though."

Just to add into this as well. Have had my apt sliders with infills on for almost a year and the infills are gradually coming loose and falling off. Haven't had a chance to head back to see Ben yet, but I'm sure he will be as helpful as always. Otherwise, good build quality and off road have worked a treat
