I've been using Castrol Syntrax 70w90 universal in my D4 for 30k , no problems . You might find the Castrol Syntrax 70w90 long life at a BP garage or get them to order it in . BP deal with most of the Castrol products .
I've just been out today trying to track down some diff oil around Perth, nowhere has the castrol syntrax 75w90 long life on the shelf but they do seem to have castrol syntrax 75w90 universal. Is anyone using the universal in lieu of the long life?
What other alternatives are there out there, a web search doesn't seem to be yielding many.

I had the same issue in that I couldn't find anyone stocking the syntrax long life. In the end I just changed to a more readily available off the self oil - penrite pro gear 75w-90

I followed the recommendation from this post:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...ml#post2185149
That is:
_______
Transfer Case: Royal Purple Synchromax (part #01512, quart bottle) or quart bottle); 1.6 quarts
Transmission, in all cases ZF Lifeguard 6.
Differentials: Royal Purple Max Gear 75W-90 (part #01300, quart bottle); 0.65 quart for the front and 1.6 quarts for the rear
_______
I bought Royal Purple Synchromax and Max Gear 75W90 from GL Lubricants on eBay, at $23/quart. ZF Lifeguard Fluid 6 from Repco at $31/L, using NRMA membership discount.
I've only done 5000km on it - so far so good.
Thanks all, looks like the penrite might be getting a go here. Specs are more tightly constrained than the syntrax universal and look more like the long life syntrax.
It also looks to be more widely available than the Royal Purple so gets the nod due to that as well.
