Who designed the D3/D4. AFAIK the D4 engine came from Ford's ownership, but the body/ interior designers?

2015 D4 probably the most amazing yet, why get a RR?
A gent called Geoff Upex led the original Disco 3 design team, his last project before retiring from Land Rover, he had to fight hard to get the ultra modern look that it was back then. I think it's aged pretty well.
Gerry McGovern did the D4 facelift and he said the main aim was to soften it up to get it to appeal to females more.
I'd love to upgrade to a D4, but am a bit scared by a couple of the design issues w.r.t maintenance, which I've read on this forum that may be true or not!
Body off to get to the turbo?
Drop the trans to get to the crank angle sensor?
Surely the designers considered long term repairability!

I have an 08 ford ranger and a lot of things inside are straight out of the D3 or visa versa. Aircon surrounds is the first thing that hits you, plus some other bits and piece's, so Ford had something to do with it.

Ps I've recently moved back to inner suburbs of Melb and D3's, 4's and RRS outnumber all large Jap makes combined by about 3 to 1, so LR got a hell of a lot right with the D3/4 design!

I made the 1 millionth AULRO post
The use of a hydroformed chassis was developed by Ford for the Ford Explorer and this enables the independent rear suspension to be packaged as it is to enable the third row of seats and low floor.
So IMHO the starting point of the mechanical design is by Ford, as are the 4litre V6, and the Jaguar engines, and the V6 diesel
Styling is another thing,as the market research on package requirements would determine the rough body shape.
But I think it is probably true that there is a lot of Ford Explorer in the D3, as unpalatable as it may seem to LR owners.

Hi simonmelb.
Before I bought my D4 in November 2013 I spoke about it with our local mechanic who mentioned that the body had to some off for some service/repair items. It turned me off at the time but I persevered and did some research.
My, (undoubtedly limited) mechanical understanding after following this forum for about 2 years now is that yes, some things need a body off scenario, but generally, the overall time to do the job is less compared to another vehicle as the access then available is substantial and hence ends up being cheaper due to less labour cost because the job is quicker. There are videos around showing it being done and from memory the time to lift the body is faster than you would imagine.
Don't know about the crank angle sensor.
