    Question Connectivity

I note on my 2015 Disco, (non GPS) Grace-note identifies pop tunes on FM stations, with singer and name of track. What type of connection does this, (apart from Gracenote on the www.)
I was wondering if there is a hack for connecting the Compass option at this device level?
I now suspect the top range device is only software upgrade, comments please!

Does it identify rock and classical as well?

Is just part of the normal RDS or DAB transmission? I'd go and check my RDS except I don't have any radio stations tuned in on my car stereo.

I just checked my DAB radio and it displays that info.

Yep, as Ron says, it is broadcast via the RDS. My MY13 does it, and so does our MY09 XR6.

What really "bakes my noodle" is that I get the Grace-note data when I load a CD and it is stored with the music in the car's hard drive. Does the car have a secret internet connection? Is it hacking through my phone?

Surely the stored data base can't include every CD. That would take a huge server. Some of my CDs are old and the data is not on the original disk. When I load the CD to be copied into the car, the screen advises that Grace-note is being accessed and the title of the CD, track details and the artist are added. Where does the car get this stuff?

I assume you are talking of CDs. Nicky's original question was about radio broadcast music.

Correct Ron, CD's and DVD's via Grace Note, FM radio via RDS and DAB, of course, transmits much more data over and above the main program(EPG, web pages, images, video etc. etc.). Just helping Fred to "un-bake his noodle".
