Just to add to the info trail. I also just had my service at 30,000km and was told I needed new pads and rotors front and rear (~$1200 front, ~$900 rear).
This is not my first Landrover, and I have servicing included in my purchase price, so playing dumb I ask if the parts are covered under warranty or as part of the service. The dealer tells me "no, this is normal wear and tear". To which I respond "no, don't go ahead with it, I'll speak directly with Landrover about why their vehicle needs such significant parts replaced as normal wear and tear at 30,000km"
The dealer asked me to hold the line. Comes back in 15 seconds and says he just spoke with the technician, and the rotors and pads can probably wait until next service....
I said "great! any other unnecessary things on the list?"
I too love the Akebono pads, great life for both the pads & rotors.
The only downside I have found is in extremely steep terrain low range you loose some braking power. This could be because of low heat levels in discs and pads though.
2014 SDV6 HSE - LLAMS, Tuff Ant Tree Sliders, Tuff Ant 18" rims, Nitto Ridge Grappler tyres 265/65 R18, Custom Lipo4 battery, Custom Drawer storage system https://www.box.com/s/jem0ilac3cner2mexq64
That would be Akebono pads - no dust
And the braking is equal if not better than stock
Had front and rear discs changed for the first time at 112000ks on my 2.7 D4. Also pads all round for the second time I think, all OEM cost $1400 at Brighton Landrover.. Interesting how the dealers seem to have their own "individual" pricing! I do not live in city though so maybe that makes a difference.
On my previous D3 and TDV8RRS had aftermarket discs fitted.. Won't go there again...problems with vibration on both.
