If You do any bush bashing, that's not the best place to mount an antenna.

Removing the cover from the A pillar is not difficult, it requires a bit of force, but not to much to deform the plastics. Try downloading the Safari snorkel instructions, as I recall it provides a guide to remove the cover.

Also, ensure the antenna has good quality coax, dual braid, buying a local antenna frome mobile one gets you a better product all round and make sure it is an independent ground plane and the whip is a loaded stainless steal whip, not a long black fibre glass rod.

Salt grinder. I've done it. Just carefully unclip it by pulling the cover piece away from the screen. Room enough for two coax cables if required. Cheers matti

Thanks Gerald . . Yep, I understand the concerns of a rack mount, but I'm just looking at all the options. My LRD4 is just 2 weeks old in my hands (bought it with just 28K on the clock), an upgrade from a big strong Niss 3lt GU. WOW! what a difference. Chlk & Ches.
I travelled all over the deserts in the Niss (includ Gibson and Grt Sandy) not sure how remote & where I'll be going in the future with the D4, it's a big learning curve (again).
If I had a BBar I would certainly mount an aerial there (don't like the SS bracket from under the side bonnet lid idea).
There's 2 brackets behind the grill down low either side in front of radiators, which could be utilised to extend a bracket through the grill but that's too low down (and they may have some other purpose).
In addition to the specs you recommend (thanks) have you any particular model # that has a short profile suitable to mount centre front on a Front Runner roof rack ???

As you are coming from a Patrol, if you want piece of mind with your new D4, get hold of Gordon's GOE booklet (gghaggis on this forum). It explains all the systems in your new car and has lots of offroad driving tips. He also runs training days (both classroom and in the field) and I would highly recommended it for new D4 owner. Look up his 'Green Oval Experience' website for details. My brother in law just changed over to a D4 after years of GU Patrol and Prado ownership and after doing Gordon's course, said it was the best thing he could have done.

I have come from a Patrol and certainly gone bush with my D4. Regular servicing and TLC and it will give good service.
The power and comfort is out of this world
