    D3 on flat bed ....sigh

Got stuck behind a road train on the way to Mt Isa from Barclay Roadhouse today and stared for quite a while at a D3 TDV6 with camper trailer on the last trailer. 😔😓😓

Could be what happened to my D4 about a month ago, one week after our epic two week 11000 km trip from Perth to Brisbane via Nullarbor, then back to Perth with a new off road caravan via Birdsville, Coober Pedy and Great Central Road.

The power steering leaked out all its oil one weekend after we got back and it just made it to Rovertech for repair with the steering barely working. Both pipes into the steering rack were loose and one O ring failed without warning, spewing oil all over the bottom of the car. Very lucky that it happened at home and not out in Central Australia. Might be a good idea to check these unions before someone else has the problem. The O rings would be fine if the unions were kept tight.

I now have a leak in the turbo system somewhere and have the Restricted Performance message as of today. Happened once on Wednesday and cleared it OK with the Faultmate. It happened again today and returns within a couple of minutes every time I clear it. I can now hear a hissing sound which reduces greatly at about 2500 rpm. I didn't hear it on Wednesday.

My car is nudging 200,000 km so things are starting to happen.

A woman talked to me at a servo a number of days ago at Katherine telling me they had a major failing with there D3 and it was being trucked back home as soon as they could arange for transport. Said oil light had come on and loss of power 70 km outside Katherine and then would not start and had no oil pressure and you could smell burnt oil. May be this one

It could be another victim of incorrect engine oil specification used or simply the oil filter incorrectly fitted otherwise incorrect / prolonged service intervals. Many an engine has had its life cut short by these simple things.

Sounds like a split I/C hose - I've been waiting for the 3.0's to start this trick and took rescue tape on my recent trip in case it happened.

I've started another post on this so as not to hijack this topic.

I have sent my D3 and camper on a trailer several times only because we were flying to meet it at the other end or I was driving the truck.

With the amount of trucks leaving Darwin empty it my be just getting a ride home. The oil on the trailer underneath isn't a good sign tho.

    Cheers Ean
