Has this happened to anyone else's D4

    Hi Guys
Just wondering if this is a common occurence, Fuel filter (bottom plastic water detection thingy) came off yesterday diesel pouring onto roadway entering freeway,........... RAC came to tow to my LR dealer( waited 25 mins)for tow truck.....fixed in 20 mins and off we go again......Whilst on the phone earlier though, LR service knew what had happened and described it exactly......How common is that i ask ???????????Hmmmmm.

    So just making a query.

    Haven't heard of this before.

What was the fault? Fuel filter break or come loose?

Had a pootrol owner who had driven from Perth and stopped at the Woolshed behind my place for lunch.
Went to start it after lunch,it just kept winding over without starting.I was in my shed and couldnt put up with it any longer.Told him I shouldnt even be looking at the thing as the Land Rover Gods frowned on it.He looked at me asif I was a complete nutter,I probably am.
Anyhow, his fuel bowl was loose and was letting fuel out,had used almost a full tank to get to Williams(160km from the city).Tightened it bled it and it fired up as good as new.Funnily enough it had only been serviced the day before. At least he shouldnt get any chassis rust!!!!
Told him next time he sees a broken down Land Rover it his turn to upset the Nissan gods!!!!

Back on subject, yours been serviced recently???

I've had 3.0L D4s since January 2010 and never had this happen. Nor heard of it.

However, to LandyAndy's point .... straight after a service my 2009 D4 started spraying fuel everywhere .....

The fuel filter was incorrectly fitted.

To be fair but no excuse ..... I've heard it's a bugger to fit due to it's proximity to the chassis.

Not so much as being hard to fit but being buried amongst the dirt made me nervous.

Common fault with the D2,most people carried an 8mm bolt in the glove box,it screwed into the filter where the broken plastic thingy broke off.

I am with Graeme, the fuel filter is in a spot that gets very dirty. The whole area may need a good clean before the filter is changed, not something you would want to do in a remote area.

One of those, what were the manufacturers thinking?

Actually when observing whilst i was in workshop next to vehicle ( i was wearing safety boots i keep them in car) the fuel filter black plastic thing which comes out the bottom of filter....was all cracked like it had perished or had been done up too tight ,so fuel was pouring from straight out the bottom of filter and not being directed to the hose attached....new one fitted in no time ....would be a very hard job without vehicle on the hoist imagine out in the desert on the CSR for instance...AAAAARGH !!.
