So $3000 to fix minor issues that probably wouldn't cost you $1000
We cancelled our extended warranty, also the extended warranty is governed by LRA, if they don't think it's a warranty claim, they won't allow Allianz to cover it, even if Allianz does.

Me too - very happy with LR extended warranty I have had on previous LR products; I still think a lot comes down to how well you get along with your local friendly LR Service Manager - if you and he get along well..... problems seem to get resolved much faster!

It seems that you need to be very wary when paying for extended warranty.

Yet my experience has been positive. Without a murmur over a myriad of claims Swann virtually rebuilt one of my cars under its 'bumper to bumper' extended factory warranty.
The Blacklocks Ford/Landrover "in house" dealership warranty was a no hassle experience and seemingly they inclined to be generous in their dealings.
I have found that a genuine factor extended warranty is great - everything else is a compromise. For example i bought a new Accord Euro 10 model - paid $1000 for an extended factory warranty for another 2 years and 50k which was up first...why did I bother. 200,000 of short trip hard 4-5 pax hard driving mostly and not at thing, literally, wrong.
I have a new Mazda 3 GT and didnt bother getting the extended warranty. The dealer gives another 2 years and 50,000 for free if you sevice with them - they are very clear - it covers major components like drivetrain - engine, gearbox, diff etc and other major components like air con etc but maximum claim amount per year of about $3,000. Not bad for free given that they are a capped price service for the life of the vehicle (Mazda have the capped prices up to about 180,000 on their web site, but they do say for original owner it continues past that) so the dealer is not asking me to pay extra for servicing with them to cover their dealer warranty...then again Honda and Mazda can hand out these things because they are so bloody reliable down to the last item.
Cheers
I think I only had one claim on my Extended Warranty, which was Allianz's best product, which is as good as the Factory Warranty and is a level above the LR Extended Warranty .... which at that time was an Allianz product also (confused? .... LOL).
I organised it through a broker and LR had nothing to do with it. I got a leak on the Oil Pump bearing (I think?) which leaked oil all over the timing belts and several suspension parts. I'm certain LR told me the damage including parts and labour exceeded $3500. Therefore my warranty paid for itself in the first hit.
It's not really a warranty anyway. It's an insurance policy where Allianz agree to pay for the repair if it's deemed as a covered item.
I went through the policy with a fine tooth comb anticipating issues. The policy states nothing about whether LR approve it or otherwise, it's not their decision to make. The only things that weren't warranted are identical to what wouldn't be covered in a factory warranty, which is pretty much wear and tear parts. However, even they are covered if damaged due to the failure of a warranted part. Which was the case in my incident with the belts and suspension parts.
Maybe the Ts & Cs are different if you purchased through LR but they had no say whatsoever in my policy. I don't see why they would anyway .... as I said it's an insurance policy and it's payed work, with the money coming from a third party, not LR. Makes no sense at all.
Cheers.
So I picked the car up today. The dealer said they covered it themselves as I am such a "loyal customer", so I cant complain about that.
The extended warranty was purchased at that dealer when I got my first service. I was of the opinion that it was the top level LR Extended warranty. It certainly cost a lot.
I accept that consumables aren't and fair wear and tear are not covered though. This is an MY12 3.0 with about 80K.
In fairness, the dealer really didn't really argue the point that hard. I queried the cost because its been serviced there from day 1 and I'd paid for the extended warranty. They came to the party so I all good in the end.
Yep, have to agree with the above, have always been treated very fairly by my dealer and have no issues recommending them. I have just purchased the extended "genuine" LR warranty ( which is a Allianz a product - confused- yes ) the friendly service manager explained the approval claim process and their aim is to make it as seemless to the customer as they can. They do all the work behind the scenes to make it all work.
I like the peace of mind it gives me, yes, it's not cheap, but I expect to clock up to 180,000km in this Disco on my current run rate, so it's a easy decision.
