Good info above.. looks like once the warning comes on they need to be replaced.
Is this a difficult job? Any tips before I start? The sensors are in the post now

Had a look tonight. No issues with pad wear - rears have only been in for 15000km and fronts for 55000km. Rear sensor looked a little worse for wear so ive chopped the cable and joined the wires together so I'll see if the fault comes up again

My front brake sensor fell out when driving through deep mud & started flashing periodically. I only had my Leatherman on me & found some insulation tape (about 5mm on a roll) so my cut & join job was pretty naff.
Better than a flashing red light on the dash though.

PS Since cut & joined properly.
Looks like I've solved my intermittent brake pad warning message. 1100km driven today and not one false message
