The founding ethos of Land Rover as a pragmatic everyday vehicle clearly no longer exists here.

I simply fail to understand any of this discussion, whereby a $100,000 vehicle still isn't good enough for purpose?

Signing off from this discussion. Best wishes to all,

But it won't handle 350kg on its towball. Plus there's no elbow room. Still the Queen drove one in the movies. And it broke down too crossing a creek!!!

Don't discount the effect that TC chattering has on drive-shaft splines and the teeth of planetary and sun gears if done frequently enough.

I have a mate who is test driving a 2.2lt Puma at the moment, for a week. From a chat we had the other nite I bet he doesnt buy it.
Noisy, poor aircon, notchy gear shift, too high ratio going around corners in 3rd-too low in 2nd,very uncomfortable back seat for his children, pedals off-set to driving position. He said it was very agricultural compared to his ageing D2,not bad for a $50000 out of the box fit for purpose vehicle.
No wonder they arent making them any more.

Andrew, you had better duck real quick as I am sure some folks of the muddy boot brigade are going to have a swipe at you.

Or you could buy a 79 Series cruiser which is more uncomfortable than a Defender and pay $20000 more.

For the money you would spend on a new Defender, you could have a rebuilt and seriously tricked up D2, which is more comfortable and more capable than a stock Defender.

    I know that's what I'm building

But there is no way a D2 has the character of a Deefer, and you can't hose out a D2

Watch me! I wouldn't exactly say I hose out my D3, but for the price I paid for it and all the extras it has I do not intend to spend a cent on it other than oils, filters and brake pads, maybe bushes if required and air springs if they ever fail. I will service the tranny too but I certainly don't get too upset with any bush pin striping etc. If the fuel economy wasn't so bad I would never even consider up grading. If V8 rego wasn't so dear In QLD I would consider leaving it at my Mum's near Port Douglas and just using it up here. I wish that QLD had the same deal for club rego as Victoria.

This "Limited Edition" looks good, but it just seems like a standard D4 + black pack.
