I assume Ben you are just talking about having the spoken instructions come through the stereo when you select Bluetooth as your audio input and view the video on your phone? Not some kind of funky video over Bluetooth arrangement?

Correct, google maps audio directions come through your speakers, then grab a phone stand for your phone either in the cup holder or on your dash, I find all you need is a simple glance, the audio directions are generally most of what you need.

It may not work for you but i'd strongly recommend trying it before spending cash on more, it's great for my needs.

True, though I only need nav when i'm in built up areas generally. When i'm bush i'm trusting Hema maps over any tom-tom/whereis/google map!

Yeh I prefer to use maps off my phone in the city too.

This is specifically to get access to Hema on the main screen rather than have an external unit like the Hema Navigator or run it on my phone screen which is too small (I refuse to have a phabet) and would need to be on and visible all the time on longer runs.

IIRC in South Australia you're not allowed to use GPS navigation/mapping off a phone, in a cradle or not.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Interesting and good to know. I live in NSW but travel to SA from time to time. I use the TomTom app on my smartphone as a GPS. How is this different to using a dedicated GPS unit?

You are allowed to use it for nav - but not 'operate it' whilst driving..

So don't touch your phone - regardless what mode it is in... Whilst driving.

Not according to the Adelaide Advertiser

Also: http://www.mac.sa.gov.au/mobile-phone-laws the use "creating, sending or looking at a text or video message on the phone;" would be the critical factor in the offence when you looked at the map

Suggest you read ALL the article.

    Particularly the "touch" part
