    Searching Gumtree for D3/D4 parts

Any tips on searching for Land Rover gear on gumtree to suit D3/D4???
I do general searches,ie Land Rover and WA as the area, mostly comes up with vehicles which I can understand.
Then start searching for parts,Land Rover Parts in WA,still mainly comes up with vehicles.
Have tried Discovery D4 parts,Discovery D4 roof rack etc, still comes back with vehicles with these features.
I just found a stainless 101 fuel tank which I posted in marketplace alerts.

    Hi Andy.

As a general rule when searching you need to use inverted commas around each specific part of the search as well as an operator such as a plus sign or possibly "and", "not", "or" and possibly "near". Depends on how they set up the web site I presume. For example "land rover" and "spare parts". The near operator should pick up the two terms within a reasonable proximity to each other within the same paragraph for example. It's based around Boolean logic. That said I also have trouble with searches as well.

Have a look at this link.

    Hi Andy,
Search on Discovery 2 TD5 (or whatever you have), go to the "cars and vehicles" section and then search on "parts and accessories". I have a saved search set up on this criteria for daily emails to keep me informed about any new parts that come up for sale. Depending on how far I feel like travelling depends on how many klms I put in.

    Cheers Marty.

Good tips for a lot of search engines there. For eBay, I get my best mileage out of a search like "Land rover (D4, LR4, Discovery 4)" where the advertisement MUST contain "Land rover" (both with or without the space), and at least one of the terms in brackets. This doesn't work on Gumtree.

I suspect with Gumtree the limited search capabilities are intentional and a commercial decision, as Gumtree wants to force you to "browse" as much as possible in order to display advertisements (their main source of revenue). Since they don't charge to do basic listings, nor do they charge upon successful sale, this is how they get the ad views/clicks up.

This is in comparison to eBay (which owns Gumtree), where they have a vested interest in getting you to your exact products (to purchase/bid) before you lose patience wading through irrelevant advertisements.
