I too have set the DLR option in the CCF, but to the northern European option (head and rear lights on). I believe that when doing this the Xenons aren't as bright as when switching them on normally, I would think this is to enhance bulb life.

My headlight switch is set to auto as well but have to remember when the car comes back from any service to switch the lights back to auto as everyone attempts to turn the lights off.

You can pick up a pair of decent D2S globes for under $50 these days (under $20 for cheap ones), or Phillips or Osrams for under $80 a pair. Much cheaper than they used to be!
I have had "cheap" HIDs in my Saab for the last 4 years, running them as "always on" and have not yet had a globe or ballast blow... In fact I am using the same ballasts I was using in the previous car for the 3 years before this car. Best thing is they don't have a filament to get damaged from vibrations.

    No they don't

But they do change colour as they age.

They also reduce to something like 70% of light at around 10,000 hrs, but that is still about 50% brighter than halogen lights.

I have just had the DRL function of my Bi-Xenons enabled as it is not price prohibitive anymore and I have spare bulbs at my disposal. I was thinking of seeing what it would take to improve the Signature Lights LEDs to use them as DRLs, but I just don't have the time these days to pull apart a spare headlight and investigate voltages/LEDs used etc.

But not as effective. DRLs are much brighter to oncoming traffic as they don't have the cut off that low beam headlights have.

?? The full monty ?? I thought that's a different flash altogether. You must be extremely agile and quick to go through that routine while being passed...
