I have a sneaking suspision the Chrysler SRT8 may share gearboxes. It has an 8 speed and pics in a newspaper review showed a very similar round selector, somewhere to look for info if you could lower yourself to a Jeep site.
Jaguar cars also run the same gearbox/selector should you want to search there for similar issues, much more cosha

    Thanks Andrew,
I'm fitting a new set of Gordons 18" wheels and trying to utilize the original 19" as spares. Not so easy to find the same rolling diameter- but its all an adventure.
    Cheers neighbour

    The OD of 265/60 R18 is 775mm
    The OD of 255/55 R19 is 763mm
It can be done as a back-up, for example as a second spare to get you out of trouble.
A few people have driven long distances with a larger mismatch than this when circumstances required it.
I tested it myself but only for a short drive of a few kilometres.

This thread mentions circumstances where OD mismatch has been done:

I'm not sure if this is a feature of all D4's or just a few. I'm pretty sure it's not a design feature and I just hoping that it isn't a precursor to a expensive gear box problem. We dont use the car to drop the kids off at school and I sure need to know the D4 will bring me home from the center of Australia. I'm still bit skittish after an evening looking at LandroverHell.com.
    Thanks for your comments

Mine gets hot at times too (2 years old now on this model) .... and it's been on Fraser, Bribie and Moreton's very soft sand .... no issue though. I just thought it was due to the fact that some Bling-Miester decided to put a lot of conductive material on top of a gearbox .

I read ****e like LR Hell for years sweating on a D3 purchase ....

    2 D4s later .....

LR Flawless? .... no. Very much on the up though.

I have no such luxuries - mine has a conventional gear lever (and proper "Land Rover" badges on the bonnet).

Mine has that weird fandangle gear selector .... but it also has Land Rover on the bonnet (MY13).... stuck in transition ... LOL!!!
