FWIW, have a look at doing it yourself. When I was buying my D4 I was looking at after market sidesteps and generally they were fairly easy to install. The sockets for the bolts are already there on the car. There may be a bit more to it but from what I've read it's pretty much bolting them on with a few minor trim bit changes.

Yeh you shouldn't have any dramas with side steps with some basic tools, just don't get generic ones, get ones that specify D3/D4.

Hell if you aren't too handy or lack the tools I'm happy to give you a few hours to help out. You can't live far away given your car seems to frequent the same Bunnings!

I installed a set of aftermarket Britpart side steps that to my recollection are functionally identical to the factory ones. It was a very simple process for anyone with a basic mechanical capacity.

The factory fitting instructions can be downloaded from the Topix site with just a basic free account and they're very easy to follow. (They even include torque settings)

The only cutting required is three slots on each of the side trim panels and believe it or not the required slots are marked on the inside of the panel from the factory so no real measuring required even. All required bolt holes / captive nuts are already in place in the vehicle..

It's been a while but i think it only took a few hours all up including plenty of coffee breaks and double checking.

That tyre should be repairable. But most tyre shops don't have the expertise and want to sell you a new tyre.

I had to visit several places in Kunnanurra before I found a reputable repairer after a puncture on the Central Arnhem Rd.

From my reading of this chart the hole in the shoulder can be 6mm diameter for a T or H rate tyre or 3mm for a V rated one.

See the thread linked above esp the comments from Dave to help you decide whether or not to use a repaired tyre.

Check the sites around the place as people are upgrading tyres to new better A/T ones and are basically throwing the original ones away as no one wants them.

Tire
Had the unfortunate encounter with possibly a nail or a screw driver bit, still not sure. Car has just clocked 1680km, very new tire still, and I was quoted over $550 to replace the tire 255/55/R19, as it can't be patched coz it hit the side wall (kind off). Not sure of any cheaper options. (Maybe time to consider 18" )

Thinking of patching it for use as spare. I drive in the city mostly. Bad idea??

I went to a tyre repair workshop run by Mick Hutton of Beadell tours recently in Sydney. It was organised by Sydney LROC. A real eye opener on what damage can be repaired when the operator is set up with a bit of gear. The tyre retailers will all say you can't repair it because they know you'll buy a new one based on their advice. I know Mick runs repair service but not many others do, with the possible exception of truck tyre workshops.

We have patched holes bigger than that using our Rema Tip Top kit and any decent tyre shop should be able to do the same
