My 6 speed SDV6 6 speed RRS doesn't have a lag issue either.
My TDV6 D3 6 speed did have a lag issue, I have never been able to work out what caused the lag. (other than touching the brake peddle inadvertently when going for the accelerator, this can trick it into a prolonged lag as the system prepares for a rapid stop)
8 speed may be better but I can't fault the 6 speed for my purposes.

The "lag" on my (recently rebuilt) 6 speed off idle is not very noticeable in normal situations. when I need to take off in a hurry, either I bump it into Sport mode (removes almost all lag) or if I REALLY need to take off in a hurry, Sand mode will have you leaving rubber on the tarmac and no lag

The rebuilt 6 is just a brilliant box, and I am looking to replace Graeme's "paddle shift" with a new steering wheel as I am used to our Saabs paddle shift locations.
