    Is rear air NECESSARY??

    OK last decision...... rear air.

I am choosing between 2 identical cars (SDV6 SE) except for the rear air option.

Can I have some advice for those with and without, if you HAVE it, does it get used much? Would you be without it?

And maybe more importantly, if you DON'T have it, do the kids in the back still get enough airconditioning?

    I won't be using 3rd row seats so that's not a problem.

My current Pajero Exceed has rear air, so I am not sure if it is a MUST on the disco. Price difference between the cars is circa $2,500. So it's not an automatic decision for me. $2,500 buys a lot of extras !!!

    Thanks very much.

We have it but we do use the 3rd row a bit, 5 kids.

I think, no proof, that having it cools the whole car a lot faster, also when I travel alone which is a fair bit these days, it helps with the fridge & Esky in the back.
If you do use the back seats the folks back there will appreciate it, so will the second row on a stinker of a day.

It gets bloody hot in Doomadgee & pretty warm in Ravenshoe so I think it was worth the extra dosh.

1 thing, if you do get it Leave it on front control, this averages the left & right front temps & that's what you get in the back. Stops people/kids putting dirty hands all over the head liner while they fiddle with the controls.

It cools the interior much much faster with rear air.

I don't have it and don't miss it.

The dog doesn't complain when in the back.

I don't have rear air but really wish I did - I bought used and it wasn't optioned.

I only use the third row occasionally but have 3 kids and the third row does cool down but it can take a little while.

Whoever sits in the middle gets their legs frozen but if it's off it can get pretty stuffy.

I've almost considered trading in my car to (mainly) get rear air.

Since you do have the choice I'd get it.

p.s. $2500 seems a lot given that IIRC it's about RRP $1650 as an option

For that money I would include it. Most accessories just sit there until used. Rear AC is used almost every time we drive.

Necessary is perhaps the wrong word. I have it and have not driven one without so can't compare directly. But I am certain it cools both the rear and whole vehicle faster and keeps the whole space at your preferred temp more efficiently because that's a big volume back there.

The overall a/c system feels much better to me than previous vehicles that were smaller (Mazda6 wagons) and I believe that part of it is due to the rear a/c but perhaps also because the front system is good and strong anyway.

There is one downside, the rear passenger side storage compartment is almost completely filled with a/c equipment. So you miss out on being able to store away a few things in there and I spose it adds a bit of weight too. I live in Brisbane and I'd rather have the a/c.

    Cheers,

We are 2 adults and 2 dogs..
The rear AC makes a substantial difference to how comfortable and how quickly the vehicle gets to temp in the cabin.

They are good without it. With it they are exceptional.

Agree with the consensus, not necessary but very desirable.

I've had one with and one without. Even though we are mostly only two up, I would always go for it if I could.

Having just the front air works ok for the people in the front seat, but like most cars even the second row suffers on a warm day.

Apart from rear passenger comfort, the big benefit for me is that it cools the whole car down more quickly and it makes a noticable difference to the temperature in the cargo area. To me this is a good thing as it means the fridge doesn't have to work as hard and any other food we're carrying that isn't in the fridge doesn't suffer as much. This is good not only when we are camping, but even doing the shopping in summer.

    Cheers,
    Jon
