Tyre Pressure Monitoring

Personally I have been using the Tyredog for the past 2+ years, and have been happy with them. Yes, they are stem mounted, but haven't had any problems with rims being scratched in that time.

Tyre pressure seems accurate when compared to a digital tyre pressure gauge, also monitors temperature, not sure how accurate, but my concern is the temperature delta, not that actual temperature itself. I looked at a 5 or 6 transmitter unit, but figured the mucking around to change sensor position in software wasn't worth the hassle.

It has been extremely useful, as had two sidewall cuts on a previous trip, which the system caught before rim damage, and also caught a sidewall failure (all Cooper Zeons) which caused a slow leak. Also meant I could monitor the leak, and pump up when necessary, until I could get to flat stable ground to change the tyre.

I have the Sensatyre TPMS installed... 8 channel (4 + 1 car; 2 + 1 van) kit... internal tyre sensors held via stainless straps. Been in place for 2 months... very happy with system operation so far. In the past had an external sensor system (different brand on a different vehicle)... it was a pain to live with and had ongoing niggling issues.

Probably going to move the display head from windscreen (corner drivers side) to the console (may be mount in one of the cup holders). Also need to find a permanent location for the rear antenna that is better protected (and will still pick up the van if I do a rear bar).

I've got an inawise TPMS - acquired it with a set of rims and tyres I brought a while back. Internally mounted sensors on the valve stems. Im up for new sensors shortly, but turns out the head unit I have wont work with the new replacement sensors as there was an update done a while back. I currently have it monitoring the disco's 6 tyres (two spares). I personally favour the in tyre sensors, however since Im up for a new head unit anyway then I might look at a unit like the sensatyre where I can monitor all the discos tyres and the two on my camper trailer when attached - its just a lot of extra $$ on top of new tyres and Im not 100% convinced its worth spending the $$$


Has anyone got any pics of where they have mounted a sensatyre head unit on a D3? (D4 pics accepted also however :) )

They will be on the inside of the plastic wheel arch liners.

You should see two holes and a kind of imprint where the initiators are mounted.

As no D3 takers on posting a Sensatyre mounting picture.... here is a D4 one.

Obversely taken from within my garage... notice that it picks up the spare and closest tyre on the van ~20m away.

I have been very happy with the Inawise 4x4 unit on my D3 for its 50,000km life in 6 Bridgestone 697s, incl Perth to CY and back. But it only does 4 wheels at any one time so won't pick up the camper. Inawise do a 12 sensor unit which I will look at for my new D4 I pick up next week :) .
Didn't know about the Sensatyre, but will now investigate.

How is the Sensatyre mounted and how are the power and aerial wires run? Any drilling, or is all with double sided tap or velcro?

Mine is mounted on a suction cap & arm to the windscreen. I managed to find one with a short stubby arm and the correct mounting bracket at Jaycar.

Power supply wiring tucks in along the edge of the dash binnacle - no drilling required. I have not used the external aerial yet - still finding that the little stubby aerial that screws onto the top of the unit is all that I need to monitor the 5 wheels on the vehicle.
