Tyre Pressure Monitoring

The Sensatyre 8 tyre set came with the mounting stalk per the picture... a good quality flexible mount with suction cap... and a double sided sticky patch for if you want to attach to a non-glass surface. 2 power options included, a cigarette plug coilly cable, and a fairly long lead with in-line fuse.

I installed a Redarc Tow Pro in one of the console cigarette sockets (right one) and have hence wired the Sensatyre head to this connector (powers up when you open the door, etc.). 2nd picture shows cables going behind the door rubber.

Antennas (this set came with 2, short & long cables, combiners, etc) are somewhat temporary mounted down the back, cable tied right at the back of the 3rd seat row well... out of sight. I ran the antenna cable down the drivers side cable channel (with the traxide and other cables, doesn't seem to effect at all). Have not drilled any holes, etc.

I found no performance differences with 1 or 2 antennas installed... but found that using the remote antenna down the back worked best with the van.

I decided not to go with an internal sensor as I use 2 sets of tyres and with an external sensor you can easily swap them over between the sets.

I bought the above kit on eBay for $113 AUD and are more than happy with it.
It has two different load profiles you can swap between, 2 people (half load) & 5 people (full load) Now the thing is you can set the default front and rear pressures for each profile. I've used 2 people for lower off road pressures and 5 for the normal road pressure. An alarm will sound if the tyres are either 25% below or above, rapid deflation or at a preset temperature. Works a treat, well worth the asking price. BTW sensor batteries last years but you can replace them yourself.

I have used them both on & off road.
The settings I have are.
Default temperature alarm is 70 degrees but this too can be set.
2 person (Off road) - Front 20psi (low 15psi, high 25psi) Rear 24psi (low 18psi, high 30psi)
5 person (On road) - Front 35psi (low 26psi, high 44psi) Rear 40psi (low 30psi, high 50psi)

Just installed mine. I think I have been driving with over inflated tire. This is the reading on a hot WA day today. Please tell me whats the right pressure I should keep for city driving.

Hey Mate,

So much more information needed. What size, brand and model of tyre. Rim size and weight on each axle?

Then some one can probably start to answer that question.

It's the factory wheels 255/55/19. No passenger. No cargo. :)

Minimum as placarded, most ppl like a few PSI more all round, and possibly a couple more again in the back. eg start with 38/40 Front/Rear see if it's comfy but not too heavy, keep an eye on the pressures and temps with your ace new TPMS. Shouldn't ever get more than 4psi increase over cold temp. Longer term watch economy and tyre wear.

You'll find different brand tyres with different sidewall stiffness can run slightly different pressures to achieve similar ride and handling.

Remember placard pressures are cold pressures - you'll gain a few psi hot
