I would want to be looking at one at that price before buying,they could well be those ones that had Discovery 3 embelished on them,seen a couple of them fitted and I wouldnt put one on my $80000 vehicle

There has been a number of discussions over the years about various cheap knock off snorkels, in general it often turns out they are made from brittle non UV resistant plastic and not worth the cost of the postage let alone the cost price. Hell of a risk to put one on your vehicle and then see it fail without notice six months on.

Is that a concrete slab on the roof rack? The only "downside" to a watertight vehicle ;-)

I wouldn't risk a cheapie on my vehicle, last thing you need is to find out it's useless when you really need it.

Ok looks similar to the various Safari copies that are available. I have one that is embossed Discovery 3. Picked it up from someone on here.
I did not try to fit it myself, but got the guys at Opposite Lock South Sydney to do it when I bought the Rear Wheel Carrier and had it fitted.
Gordon at OL was cursing it, as there were some issues with the template and the air intake hose as supplied was not long enough, so he had to get a new one in and a couple of sealing gasket rings as well I think. He assures me that it will be waterproof however. So I am glad that I didn't even think of trying.
When I was up in the Flinders after Melrose a couple of years ago, it seemed to do a good job of reducing the amount of dust that go into the air filter. So I am happy with it. But if I did it again I would probably go the Safari.

The ones with "Discovery 3" embossed on them.I think these are the same sans the D3 name.

The flexible tube is shown - curved and compressed rather than straight and stretched to length. It also has the large elbow for connection to the air-box that requires the aperture to be enlarged. It looks identical to the copy that I fitted to my D4 which is still as it was when I fitted it nearly 6 years ago.

If I can add 5c worth......When I bought my 2010 D4, it came fitted with a LR 'raised air intake' as well as a host of after market accessories. I had heard stories doubting the water-tight integrity of the OEM 'snorkel' and that they have a fabric style 'membrane' tube that runs from the lower intake through the inner engine bay panel into the air-cleaner.

With this in mind and that I usually don't think twice about tackling a water crossing, I decided to remove the 'raised air intake' and have a look for myself.

If I found the alleged fabric style tube, I planned to install a length of rubber suction hose (The type that has a spiral wire wound around the outside perimeter) as it would be flexible enough to negotiate the bends through the inner engine panel, be water proof and last the life of the vehicle.

Well fortunately, the previous owner (Who unfortunately passed away after building his humdinger D4) was fastidious in ensuring that all T's were crossed and I's were dotted. It seems that we both had the same thought and once I had dismantled the air intake (Not a hard job), I found that a length of convoluted hose similar to the hose off a swimming pool vacuum had replaced the original 'fabric tube'.

Only downside is that I didn't get to see what was originally installed - can anyone confirm once and for all that the OEM 'raised air intake' is fitted with a fabric style hose that while dust proof - may or may not be water proof???
