    HDC at road speed

    Can you use HDC when in High range, say heading down a steep road towing the van?

    Probably doing anything from 40 to 100kmh.

    nope, HDC is only for slow speed work I think, but cant recall exactly that its limited to low range use.

    HDC does work in high range, but I think there is a limit as to the speed it will work.

    Edit: In a D4, it works up to 80 km/h. Note that the HDC in a D4 is much more refined than in D3 or early RRS.

    How do you get it up to 80 ? All the pressing in the world I couldn't get it above 13 in low range

    I wouldn't use it for that as it over uses the brakes, I was using it to descend a moderately steep dirt cutting with a trailer on and I got very hot and burnt brakes. Much better to use command shift, drop back a gear or two to use engine braking and the. Manually apply brakes as necessary. It's also very annoying at times because if you accelerate a bit and then back off it grabs the brakes all the time.

    For me I turn it off most of the time even off road and just manually put it on if descending a nasty very steep loose section.

    I can't see a reason to use HDC in high range on bitumen I am afraid. Why would you? The car has excellent brakes and a simple move to manual mode using the paddles or gear change is the best approach in my view.

    HDC works the brakes hard and the chance of an overheat is on the cards when left switched on in low range so why risk in in high range on the road

    HDC should be restricted to speeds 30kph or less. If it's activating at speeds greater than that, there's something wrong!
