Discovery 3 Coils or Air ?

I recently posted a question regarding D3 air or coils for primarily towing a caravan & received quite a few helpful replies ( Thank You ) all I'm the affirmative of air suspension over coils. I can't help wondering, Is there any thing inherently 'wrong ' with the coil suspension models or is it just that the air suspension is 'that good'. I'd have to think the coil spring D3 would ride at least as good as a D2 model , which I've had 2 of one destroyed when it came to rest upside down with the caravan behind it . I don't know what the clearance would be like on a standard D3 compared to a standard D2 . Any feedback on this will be welcome, I still haven't made my mind up fully & still looking intently for the right package which is a combination that includes finances , maintenance levels, kilometres etc.

We have the coil sprung D3. The wife loves it and uses it for dragging a large horse and float around. Hardly goes off road, so doesn't miss terrain control.

You can't even compare the handling of our old D1s (and the D2s I drove) with the D3. We recently replaced the shocks with some Dobinsons (cost about $700 for all 4 corners) and the car is a joy to drive and ride in. Smooth and comfortable, and goes around corners OK... (I usually have a car with sports suspension, so I'm a harsh critic when it comes to cornering).

There is nothing wrong with coil sprung D3s, its just the air suspension with terrain control is more advanced...

Standard the D3 coiler does not have a lot of clearance.
I'm sure someone her will have the figures at their finger tips.

I am an Ex D3 owner with coil... upgraded to Dobinsons.

It was very capable on and off-road.

I regret selling it but got a new D4 with rear e-diff... so kind of happy now..

    Cheers

Have moved from Defender 110 wagon to D2 coiler to D3 EAS.

Have not used the D3 to tow the camper trailer in and out of Arnhem Land like the first two vehicles did, but you did say what I personally have found since changing from the D2 coiler to the D3 with EAS - yes it is 'that good'

    I have upgraded from a TD5 Defender and a TD5 D2 with ACE.
The air suspension is very good.

I dont want to be difficult but that is VERY limited wheel travel...and no simulation of live axle suspension that the air suspension affords...and yes clearance for serious offroad work would be very compromised.

Yes, I was thinking that as well, would have looked very different with an air D3 specially with Llams

I would think the biggest/best towing difference between the coil D2's and coil 3's is the much longer wheelbase.
